Is Andre Johnson's career overshadowed by his father's fame, or is he making his own mark?

Magic Johnson’s eldest son prefers a private life. The 5x NBA champion and his wife Cookie Johnson are often seen doing their grandparents’ duty for their two grandkids, Gigi and Avery. Both were born to Johnson’s eldest Andre Johnson. The two kids are a constant in their Magic and Cookie Johnsons’ Instagram posts, however, we don’t get to see much of Andre. Unlike his father Johnson, Andre chooses to stay out of the public spotlight.

He has his own business, and podcast, and works closely with Johnson’s business but does it all in silence. He was born to Johnson and his ex-girlfriend Melissa Mitchell in 1981.

Having an NBA legend as a father, it’s impossible to not have basketball as an important part of life. Andre too equally loves the sport. He played basketball during his time at Waverly High School. Even after a transfer to Everett High, he continued his passion averaging 12 points and six assists per game.

However, as he entered college in California, Andre decided to focus on his education which would help him in his career in business. After graduation, he joined his father’s business, an investment company, Magic Johnson Enterprise as an executive VP of Business Development to gain experience.

He also used to interview candidates for his father’s company. 6 years later in 2010, the 43-year-old decided to join the Canyon Capital and worked for 2 years for the company. Even though he returned to Johnson’s company, he left again in 2014. This time, he ventured into an entirely different career space by joining Hydra Entertainment as a producer.

Like his father, Andre too has a penchant to explore different fields. He has also worked for the Virtual Reality Company and Mythical Games. In 2022, he became the Executive VP of Business Development at SwimWin Sports. He also has a podcast, “Please Elaborate.”
