Does Pippen's documentary reveal the real hero behind the Bulls' dynasty? What do you think?

Unguarded, Scottie Pippen’s autobiography, opened up a new world to fans. Through the lens of the 6x NBA champion, we saw his struggles and gained a fresh perspective on the iconic Chicago Bulls team. The same team that went on to win three consecutive championships, twice. Now, Pippen is once again reflecting on those victories in the 90s, but this time, he’s focusing on the beginning. A new documentary that revisits the Bulls’ 1990-91 championship run might soon be on the horizon. There’s a lot to anticipate.

This was the first of their three consecutive wins. As expected, the most anticipated matchup was in the Finals, where the Bulls faced off against the formidable Los Angeles Lakers, led by Magic Johnson. Before reaching the Finals, though, the Bulls had to overcome several equally talented teams.

Why does Scottie Pippen want a new documentary on the 1990-91 championship game?

In a recent interview, the Bulls legend discussed his inspiration behind this endeavor. “We’re looking to do a documentary on this basketball because we think that there’s a lot of stories to be told,” Pippen told TMZ. Pippen also revealed that the documentary would spotlight the entire season, revealing untold stories and the lesser-known heroes along the way.

“I think it’s going to be more about the whole run of that season. I am working with a team, but my ideal is to see this ball really sort of tell a story of what it was like for basketball in the ’90s and what it was like for our journey to get to that first championship,” Pippen shared. The 7x NBA All-Star has already struck a partnership with Deon Taylor from Hidden Empire Productions to make the documentary a reality. Looking back at their path to glory, we’re in for a memorable documentary.

In the first round of the playoffs, the Bulls faced the New York Knicks, led by John Starks. Despite the Knicks’ hard-fought efforts under the guidance of coach Stu Jackson, they were unable to match up against Jordan and his squad. Pippen, Horace Grant, Bill Cartwright, and B.J. Armstrong were at their best. And it showed as they went on to win three consecutive games to advance past the first round.

Jordan’s frenemy Charles Barkley, along with Ron Anderson, Rick Mahorn, and others, were waiting for the Bulls next. The Philadelphia 76ers put up a stronger fight against them, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulls beat them 4-1. In the Eastern Conference Finals, Pippen and the rest of the team had to face their arch-nemesis, the Detroit ‘Bad Boy’ Pistons, who were the two-time defending champions and had beaten Chicago in three successive postseasons prior to 1991.

Have an interesting take?

The Pistons had an extremely powerful roster featuring Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman, Mark Aguirre, and more. The Chicago Bulls defeated the Detroit Pistons in five games, advancing to battle the Los Angeles Lakers for the franchise’s first title. It was a passing of the torch moment as the Showtime Lakers had dominated the 80s and this would mark the franchise’s last Finals appearance for 9 years.

Apart from the documentary, Pippen has also revealed that he wishes to sell a small part of the game ball from the championship game, which he has held onto for 33 years. Pippen is still in possession of the championship trophy replicas and championships rings. A digital token has been created from the ball, which will be available for fans to buy and own a piece of this historic game.

What we’ve done with the ball is we’ve tokenized it and we believe that this ball is a real-world asset. And so, we want to make this ball as valuable as possible. So what we’re doing, we’re giving this ball back to the community and allowing them to see the value and also to build the value in this asset,” Pippen said.

The No Bull tour earlier this year was successful, so it’s likely that the new documentary might become another hit. Now, all we have to do is be patient for the new series.
