The most important college star of his era, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, was the face of the NBA for over two decades. Entering the league in 1969, Lew became a dominant force in the NBA as he won 6 championships during his career. Best known for his time with the LA Lakers, Kareem was an important cog in the league’s rise in popularity. Choosing to play in the NBA over the ABA, his decision to do so was monumental in the league’s growth as they took over the ABA in 1976.

Lew’s influence didn’t stop there as he went on to form the Showtime Lakers alongside Magic Johnson in 1979. The duo dominated an entire decade of basketball as the NBA rose in popularity during this reign. Kareem’s greatness is still felt today, as he remained the record point scorer until earlier this year. While his greatness is undeniable, a resurfaced clip of his recently showed a side to him not many would have imagined.

46-year-old clip shows Kareem-Abdul Jabar’s brutal retaliation

In a recent post shared by ‘Hoops’ on X (formerly Twitter), NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar can be seen retaliating in a brutal manner as he is dealt with a painful jab during an NBA match. The 46-year-old clip sees the 6x MVP getting elbowed in his stomach as he answers it back with a blow of his own.

The video clip dates?back to a game between the LA Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks,

The altercation took place between him and rookie Kent Benson, who was just checking in for his first NBA game. Selected as the first overall pick of the 1977 NBA draft, Benson was just two minutes into the game when he caught Kareem with a nasty elbow to his abdomen.

Although in pain, we can see Kareem retaliating in brutal aggression in what was a welcome-to-the-NBA moment for the rookie. A hook from Murdock rocked the 6’11 center as the clip showed a side of him that not many people have seen before.

Who is Kent Benson?

While Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is a common name within the NBA community, the same cannot be said for Kent Benson. The first overall pick of the 1977 NBA draft at the center was a mainstay in the NBA for 12 seasons. Prior to his stint in the NBA, the 6’11 star was an NCAA champion with Indiana, as the Hoosiers won every game they played, finishing 32?0.

Despite his early successes in college basketball, things never materialized for the center in the NBA. Drafted by the Bucks, Benson spent 3 years there before moving to the Pistons, where he spent his longest tenure of six years. After his time in Detroit, they traded the former NCAA champion to the Jazz before spending his last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Indiana native tried his hand in Europe with the Italian side of Pallacanestro Cant? but chose to retire after a single season.
