The NBA’s inaugural In-Season tournament has ignited a fervor within the basketball community, drawing opinions from every corner of the NBA world. Even after the tournament, the clash of opinions continues to enhance the narrative. While some view it as a refreshing change, others, including notable figures like Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley, have been vocal critics. Amidst the criticism, Adam Silver found support in Golden State Warriors legend Andre Iguodala.

In the recent episode of the ‘Point Forward’ podcast, Iggy praised the tournament. Describing the popularity of the new initiative, he said, “In-season tournament was a hit. And it’s funny cause Adam Silver was trending. People were like Adam Silver going crazy.” His buddy Evan Turner also agreed to it and stated that the African-American community became a bigger fan of the NBA commissioner.

As per ESPN, the game’s viewership matched a first-round Playoff game. About 2 million people watched the tournament on national TV. It also saw support and praise from the players.

They were fully engaged in the tournament, treating it as a playoff-level competition. Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, who wasn’t previously fond of the tournament, also stated that he became a fan of the game. Despite all that, Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal seemed against it.

Previously, Charles Barkley schooled Commissioner Adam Silver about overworking the players through the tournament. He expressed strong disapproval on The Dan Patrick Show regarding the Lakers reportedly hanging a banner for their tournament win. The Chuckster suggested, “You don’t do champagne for the In-Season Tournament… If (the Lakers) put that In-Season Tournament banner up, I’m going to roast their a** on television.”

He even said that he doesn’t consider the Lakers’ latest win as LeBron James’ fifth title. O’Neal, on the other hand, stated how the tournament wasn’t about talent but the $500,000 grand prize. He said, “I’m going to just keep it real, they not fighting for the trophy, they fighting for that $500,000.” While they would agree with Iggy about the tournament being a hit, they’ve had numerous issues with it.
