Charles Barkley touched on a sad note during his latest podcast episode on TNT. The Philadelphia 76ers legend wanted to address the sudden demise of the ‘The Greyhound’ aka Walter Davis. But most importantly, Barkley was concerned about the attention this passing received. Despite the fact that Davis was a legend of the game and one of the nicest guys, there wasn’t much limelight on his demise. This pissed off Barkley and led him to share a few harsh words.?

Walter Davis, who died due to natural causes, played for both the Nuggets and the Suns. He made a mark for himself in the NBA in the 1980s. Though Chuck spoke highly of Davis in the days following his passing, he found the lack of coverage around the Phoenix legend to be offensive.

Being a Suns legend himself, Charles Barkley knows who deserves the credit. The 1993 NBA MVP firmly believes that Walter Davis deserved a lot of attention, that too especially upon his demise. Barkley shared, “I really feel bad coz this guy[Walter Davis] has never really probably gotten the recognition he deserves.”?

The 60-year-old added,?“He passed away, they glossed over it and nobody said anything. Walter was just a nice man…He was a hell of a player and just a nice man. It was so glossed over because he’d been out of the limelight for so long, he wasn’t on television.”

Barkley expected a lot more from the media. However, modern-day media has its goals set differently.??

Regardless, with legends like Charles Barkley taking the matter into their own hands, it will certainly help to preserve and promote the legacy of Walter Davis.

Even before Davis stepped foot in the NBA, he already had a gold medal on his resume. Scoring nearly 1800 college points and 400 assists, a young Davis was selected for the USA Olympics team. In the NBA too, he was nothing short of a superstar.?

During his 15-year career in the NBA, Walter Davis mostly played for the Suns and still remains the franchise’s leading scorer with 15,666 points. What impressed the fans most was his ability to score and quick cuts, which later earned him the nickname, ‘The Greyhound’.

A few other famous nicknames are, ‘Candyman’ and ‘Velvet Touch’. Later in 1994, the Suns retired Davis’s No. 6 jersey too. He was also enshrined with the Ring of Honor in 2004.?
