Veteran Chris Paul will be entering his 20th NBA season with his 7th team. He will be playing alongside the French phenom, Victor Wembanyama, who swept the ROTY award. However, the San Antonio Spurs, for the fifth season in a row, failed to qualify for the playoffs. Apart from the ring, CP3 has achieved most of the records, and just like many fans, Kevin Garnett can’t wait to see the duo in action.
On his Instagram, KG uploaded a carousel with 2 videos and 1 photo explaining his praise for Paul. Further, the 48-year-old elaborated on how things might change for the 20-year-old. Noting this, KG said, “Last year, he did not get any easy baskets, everything felt hard or challenged, and rightfully so…Playing with Chris Paul, he is going to get easier baskets.” With CP3 being in the top 3 of the assists list, he sure knows how to handle any kind of pressure.
Moving on, there was another thing missing from Wemby’s arsenal: his tenacity. “I watched him in the Olympics. I thought he was too passive. Wait till he starts to get a lot more aggressive, wait till he starts being a lot more selfish. Wait till he starts to understand the responsibility.” As per Kevin Garnett, the Point God will hold the key to Spurs’ success.

Chris Paul is a savant of the game, who is reputed for his impactful play as well as for improving the organizations. He has done it throughout his career. Hence, the San Antonio Spurs could be on their way to a big jump this season. At the very least, if not playoff success, their young core will mature and pick up new tricks with veterans like Chris Paul. Amidst all this, Garnett is not the only one to hold such an opinion.
Another veteran agreed with Kevin Garnett’s claim about Chris Paul
CP3 inked a reported $11 million, one-year deal, and this move will plug an important hole for the Spurs. The fans felt that there were multiple such instances last season where Wemby had his hands up asking for the ball but he did not have much success. Thus, the Point God’s addition should solve that problem. Even Draymond Green had no issue admitting the correct signing of Chris Paul by the Spurs.
“CP with [Popovich], who’s still a genius. Pairing CP with Wemby to teach that young fella. CP one of the greatest vets I’ve ever been around. Spending the year with CP and I’m a vet…he was a vet to me! It’ll be great for Wemby. And the young fella [Stephon] Castle. …That is a genius move by the Spurs, man,” said Green. Moreover, Paul has a track record of leading the youngsters.

He led the Oklahoma City with a young Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in 2019-20. Plus, he also mentored Devin Booker and Mikal Bridges in the Phoenix during 2020-23. Furthermore, Paul said that he learned as much from the aforementioned trio as he taught them. And there is no doubt that he will once again help another player, Victor Wembanyama.
