The NCAA Tournament always draws the biggest stars in style. This time, two multi-hyphenate basketball veterans are not only being role models for the young athletes, but they’re also making an impact. Grant Hill took a break from broadcasting duties and joined Lisa Leslie for the ultimate collaboration with the US Army, no less. The challenge, though, was of epic proportions.

Just before Final Four tip-off a couple of days ago, Ernie Johnson cut to the tailgate festivities led by the 7x NBA All-Star and the 2x WNBA champ. Their challenge was to make a 20-foot high free throw from a distance of 50 feet. It’s double the height of a standard NBA rim. That’s a huge challenge even for the two legends. Neither Leslie nor Hill could make a casual shot by themselves, though Leslie was determined to beat him.

That’s why “seasoned vet” Hill had his friends in the US Army bring out the “big guns.” Literally. This is called the ‘Impossible Shot’ because of the two super-sized cannons used to shoot the balls with military precision. Grant and Leslie had 30 seconds to make as many ‘impossible shots’ with these cannons as they could.

But even with the help of their army teammates, it was not easy to make a 20-foot high shot. After much effort, Hill got a hang of it and made two points. Leslie, unfortunately, didn’t make a single shot. “They’re not so impossible now,” gloated the winner while Leslie sulked.

Making the ‘Impossible Shot’ was only one of the few things on Hill and Leslie’s March Madness itinerary.

Grant Hill is fulfilling one of his many roles at the NCAA Tournament. The Atlanta Hawks co-owner is also a sportscaster who splits his time in the MLB scene and was on the crew covering the Final Four men’s tournaments along with Tracy Wolfson, who hosted the Impossible Shot.

On the other hand, the Los Angeles Sparks icon was probably keeping an eye on the 2024 nominees of the Lisa Leslie Award, including the new reigning champ, Kamilla Cardoso. The Olympian also stated that Caitlin Clark would be a perfect fit for Team USA ahead of the Summer Olympics in July.
