Anthony Edwards was on the receiving end of a technical call a few days ago. But the players and media have been divided with their response to this, as he was given the technical for mean-mugging his opponent after dunking on them. This has raised concerns among people about whether the league is currently too ‘soft’ and how this would affect the future of the NBA.

In a recent podcast episode, JJ Reddick was joined by Tyrese Haliburton. During their conversation, they talked about the recent technical foul that was assessed to Anthony Edwards during a game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors.

The Anthony Edwards call is not right, says Reddick

Both Reddick and Haliburton expressed their dissatisfaction with the call on The Old Man and the Three podcast. Reddick, in particular, was not happy regarding the current state of the league.

Having played 15 seasons in the NBA, Reddick was extremely upset after seeing this. He also took to Twitter to express his frustration. The 39-year-old shared the video of his conversation with Haliburton and captioned the post, ‘Can we stop? @NBA’

Reddick said, “Anthony Edwards last night.. ridiculousThis is what the players want. If you get yammed on, you deserve at least a mean mug… It’s part of the game. If it’s extra, if it’s exaggerated, theatrical, All of that. By all means. T him up. But can we stop with the mean mug T’s?”

The former Mavericks star understands why some people might get technical for their actions. But to give someone a technical for staring at someone sounds absolutely absurd to Reddick. Haliburton also agreed with Reddick and said that they should stop this. As it turns out, Reddick & Haliburton are not the only ones

The NBA world has already shown its displeasure

It is safe to say that most people have joined forces to echo their displeasure. Austin Rivers was one of the first to share on social media about the effect this will have on the games. He stated that doing this will make players lose their passion for the games, as they are not allowed to ever show their emotions.

Media veteran Stephen A. Smith also agreed with Rivers and expressed how tired he is of the current state of the NBA. Retired NBA star Jamal Crawford also added that these kinds of calls just make the NBA too soft, and he is not a fan of this.

The referees defended their call by saying that if these kinds of actions are left unchecked, then they can add up and lead to further altercations among the players which might take a serious turn.
