There will never be an end to the NBA GOAT debate. But it’s always fun to know who different people have as their greatest player and their reasoning behind it. While people of different generations have different players in their minds, the consensus top two are usually Michael Jordan and LeBron James. But rather than looking at the greatest, some athletes have explained who they would prefer to share the court with on various occasions.

In a recent interview, a Detroit Pistons legend revealed who he would rather play with between LeBron and Michael. Interestingly, his choice was previously upheld by a former teammate of MJ’s.

During an episode of the podcast hosted by Charlie LeDuff, he had Dave Bing on to talk about his life, his work off the court, and also about his time in the league.  In the conversation, Dave was asked who the greatest player was during his time. Dave did not have a singular answer for this. He said the most talented was Oscar Robertson. The most dominant was Wilt Chamberlain. The most successful was Bill Russell because of all his rings.

He then goes on to explain the question he gets asked the most. It’s who is better: Michael Jordan or LeBron James. Dave Bing has a diplomatic answer ready.

Bing played for 12 seasons in the NBA, from 1966–1978. Years after his illustrious career, the 7x All-Star was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990.

He said, “Michael is a great player, but personally, I’d play with LeBron James because he will give me the ball.”

This is something even other players have agreed upon. Even though 59-year-old NBA legend Charles Oakley has Jordan above LeBron, he has mentioned that Jordan will not pass to him, so he would rather play with LeBron. Given that Oakley played alongside Mike, he probably knows what he’s talking about.

Dave then explains that Jordan is a complete scorer, and LeBron was more dominant at the rim. But with either of them on your team, you can win a championship. Bing further went on to explain what he does not like about the NBA now.

Dave described his displeasure with how the league is currently doing. He talks about how the NBA is more individualized than based on a team.

People are focused on Bird against Magic and Curry against LeBron. But it should be the teams against each other and not the players. That’s how it’s supposed to be according to him.

Well, it was apparent by the way the GOAT debate is headed that people are more focused on the individuals. This was noticed when people started counting the player’s finals appearances like boxing records. But it’s always enjoyable to understand different perspectives on the matter.
