International superstars dominate the current game. However, multiple NBA legends laid the foundation for these stars to shine in the league. One such former player was Tony Parker who is considered a “trailblazer” by many. Hours before being inducted into the Hall of Fame, Parker revealed the reason behind signing with a major brand.

The Frenchman was recently enshrined in the Hall of Fame class of 2023 for his achievements in the NBA. Over the course of his career, Parker has won four NBA titles with the San Antonio Spurs.

Tony Parker became the President of ASVEL Basket of the French basketball league LNB Pro A after his playing career. Interestingly, he played for the team during the 2011 NBA lockout. Ever since taking over the club, he has helped ASVEL win four league titles. Notably, rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama played for the team for one year under Parker’s guidance.

The 6x NBA All-Star recently talked about signing an endorsement deal with Adidas after his retirement. He disclosed the reason behind signing with the $37 billion worth of company during an interview with Boardroom. Parker noted that he was looking for a partner for the teams he owned.

He added that the ASVEL soccer team was already sponsored by Adidas. Then in 2019, the brand sponsored the basketball team as well. Parker said that he was already wearing Adidas apparel because of his team’s association with the brand. So he thought it would make sense to sign a deal with the company.

“Adidas is a brand that is respected by everybody, has been around forever and it was a natural fit for where I am in my career, now that it’s my post-career.”

The 2007 Finals MVP also said that he was happy when he first discussed the deal. Parker added that it was a great fit for everyone involved. He noted that he hopes to have a long-term relationship with the $38 billion brand.

Tony Parker was a very crucial player for the Spurs dynasty.

Ahead of the 2023 Hall of Fame, Parker credited legendary head coach Gregg Popovich for his success in the NBA. He thanked the Spurs’ head coach for helping him become the best young point guard when he entered the league.

Parker also talked about the close bond he shared with Popovich. Notably, Coach Pop was also inducted into the Naismith Memorial last night. Parker and Poppo are the first coach-player duo to be commemorated on the same night.
