No setback is too big for Big Diesel. Shaquille O’Neal is proving all his businesses matter to him with his newest announcement. After a horrifying ordeal a couple of years ago, Shaq didn’t give up on a business in a city that matters to him a lot. He left a ‘super‘ mark on the city of Atlanta years ago. But now The Big Peach is going to remember Big Aristotle for a new reason.

The $400 million worth star has pulled through on a promise to deliver the sweet treat again after an accident impacted one of his franchise units. Mark your calendars because Shaq is bringing the donuts to A-Town.

Shaquille O’Neal revives donut franchise

While expanding his fast-casual dining chain, Shaquille O’Neal is keeping up with all his other franchise businesses too. The multi-preneur owns multiple businesses in Atlanta, Georgia. Out of 155 restaurant franchises he owns all over the country, several units operate here. Including a Krispy Kreme location in Midtown Atlanta.

The store here was gutted in a fire in 2021. Not to be deterred, Shaq revealed plans were in development earlier this year. Now the newly restored store has an opening date. Shaq’s Krispy Kreme location will reopen on October 10. The 4000 sq. ft. store will be in the same spot at Ponce de Leon, a major spot in Atlanta, which is important to the $2 billion donut empire too.

Everyone has been so supportive during our bounce-back process and we’re thrilled to turn on the Hot Light. Our longstanding presence in Ponce is core to the community. Beginning Oct. 10, delicious, fresh Krispy Kreme doughnuts and all the happiness that comes with enjoying and sharing them will be back,a rep for Krispy Kreme told Fox5 Atlanta.

Krispy Kreme, including the Ponce location, has been an Atlanta staple for over 50 years. Shaq took over the store in 2016 when he became a spokesperson for the brand. After the fire in February 2021, he immediately responded with gratitude to the firefighters and first responders. While expressing his relief that nobody was hurt, he promised to bring back the store “better than ever.

 

In January, he revealed restoration plans were in full swing. The newly revived store will reportedly employ more than 70 team members. It also gives a nod to the site’s historical significance with a custom mural and plaque. The iconic Krispy Kreme heritage sign that goes back to the ’60s was also refurbished. This won’t be Shaq’s only connection to Atlanta.

Shaquille O’Neal’s superheroic touch in Atlanta

The year he became a donut franchisee in Atlanta, he made another jaw-dropping purchase. O’Neal, who cemented his glory with the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat added a Metro Atlanta property to his real estate portfolio. The sprawling 7,400 sq. ft. estate is worth $1.5 million.

The mansion has been attracting eyeballs online for its indulgent features. A Superman logo on the gate and a massive new pond are some of the Shaq touches to this estate.

However, the revival of the Ponce Krispy Kreme store is endearing Atlanta to Shaq. Donut lovers will not only get their favorite treat at the popular spot, but they stand a chance to get a free Original Glazed treat every month of the year.
