The LA Lakers have made their way into the In-Season Tournament semi-final. Although there is a controversial timeout decision from their quarterfinal game which is being virally discussed, the fact is the Lakers will play in the semi-final of the very first In-Season Tournament. However, Lamar Odom isn’t happy with the team he once played for.

Recently, Odom chimed in on the current state of the Lakers during an interview. As per the 2x NBA champion, the LA franchise lacks so many aspects of the game that they need immediate changes.

Odom thinks the Lakers lack talent on their roster. He said, “They don’t have enough talent,” and that they should recruit some players to add more depth to the squad. The 44-year-old said that the health factor of the team isn’t as big a problem as their lack of talent. Their health hampered their chances last season but for Odom, they need players like Zach LaVine who can “fly through the roof” for them. He said that the Lakers games are not good enough to get the crowd on their feet and for that, they’ll need new legs on the team in the form of a superstar.

Odom also said that the Lakers are very heavily dependent on LeBron James, despite the 4x NBA champion running in his 21st season. When asked about Anthony Davis and his style of play complementing LeBron, Odom didn’t sound satisfied with Davis’ performance. He echoed the sentiments of so many other pundits who have said in the past that the team should not rely on LeBron alone. Even King James said at the beginning of the season that this is going to be AD’s team now. However, we have not seen consistency from AD so far in the team.

LeBron, on the other hand, has been far more consistent with his team.

The recent timeout controversy

During the quarterfinal against the Lakers and the Phoenix Suns, at the end of the fourth quarter, a controversial timeout was given to the Lakers. With a little over seven seconds on the clock and a loose ball on the court, the Lakers called time out and they were granted one. However, as per the rules, a timeout can only be given if the team has the ball.

Regardless, the Lakers could seal the game and advance into the semi-final of the In-Season Tournament. LeBron was once again the top scorer of the game with 31 points.
