Last year, to celebrate Michael Jordan, Nike unveiled plans for the first-ever Jordan ‘World of Flight’ store in the United States. This year, the Swoosh is launching the ‘Banned’ Air Jordan 1 to celebrate its 40th anniversary ahead of Michael Jordan’s special day. But 10 days from now, the birthday could be ruined thanks to a loss suffered in 1992. Yes, it is the Olympics year, and yes, it is about the ‘Dream Team’ loss.
HBO and TNT Sports are releasing ‘We Beat The Dream Team’. This features the little-known story of young college basketball stars beating Dream Team in a scrimmage. Per the press release, “shocked the NBA superstars by defeating them in a scrimmage – an outcome that ultimately helped propel the Dream Team to gold.” This will be dropping on 17th February, on the same day the 6x NBA champion celebrates his birthday.
Even the fans noticed the coincidence “On Jordans Birthday!” The USA Select team was the team of star collegiate players at the time. Grant Hill, Chris Webber, Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway, Bobby Hurley, Jamal Mashburn, Allan Houston, and Rodney Rogers. Reportedly, it was the Dream Team coach’s idea to have a scrimmage against this team. Chuck Daly wanted to show the superstar NBA players of all time, that they weren’t invincible.

It did work as the Team led by Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Michael Jordan swept the opposition 8-0 and an average of 43.8 points per game. Another absurd stat to prove the domination of the team- they averaged 118.9 points per game and never scored less than 100 points in a single game.
So it’s an interesting decision that the makers have decided to drop it on Michael Jordan’s birthday. If it’s a coincidence or not, only they could tell, but the fans have a clear idea about it.
Fans were quick to catch the Michael Jordan connection
Even MJ spoke about the loss back in the day. “We got killed today. They beat us and they played well. We’re so out of sync and so unsure about things that we feel comfortable within normal situations. We don’t have any continuity at all. If they were in the Olympics, they’d win the silver medal.” Despite the high praise from the Bulls legend, the makers are dropping this on his birthday. A fan added, “lol. That’s MJs bday 🤣🤣🤣.”

While the previous hit documentary involving Micahel Jordan was ‘The Last Dance.’ Another user compared the two and trolled MJ for releasing another documentary. “Michael Jordan bout to drop another documentary.” The jokes stem from the story about the Last Dance being about the Bulls’ run, but it highlighted MJ predominantly. One of His Airness ‘hater’ couldn’t believe the timing which also falls on their birthday.
“Drops on my Birthday which is MJ Birthday. Something extra us Jordan Haters can use 😂.” While another netizen was completely puzzled looking at the timing of it. “Y’all dropping this on Mike’s birthday???? Oh Lord.” Let’s also remember that Michael Jordan did not play the whole practice game, as per Daly’s instruction.
The day the two teams faced each other again, the Dream Team ended up winning by a bigger margin. One of the MJ’s supporters thought it was Boardroom’s idea to drop it on Jordan’s birthday. “The fact that releasing this documentary on Michael Jordan’s birthday is petty and reveals your motives. @boardroom.” The page merely reported it, but the timing from HBO and TNT Sports is certainly eyebrow-raising.
