The Trinity-Dennis Rodman saga highlighted that there have been very few times we’ve seen this father-daughter duo in public. The last time the Washington Spirit star shared the same atmosphere with her famous dad was in the 2021 NWSL Playoffs. Until then, Trinity had built her fame on her own. That emotional reunion became a talking point at the end of 2024 after Trinity revealed her dad had been radio silent after that moment.

“He’s not a dad. Maybe by blood, but nothing else,” was the most hitting statement Trinity made on Call Her Daddy. But there were a lot of revelations from her.

In 2021, Dennis Rodman’s younger daughter was selected by the Washington Spirit (The team Rodman’s once rival, Magic Johnson would come to own). She was better known as the youngest athlete to ever be drafted in the NWSL at 18, and not just a 5x NBA champion’s daughter. That same season, the Spirit made it to the playoffs. In the quarterfinal match against the North Carolina Courage, Dennis Rodman showed up.

That moment delivered one of the more memorable images of the most flamboyant player in the NBA in recent history. Dennis and Trinity were seen sharing an emotional hug and Dennis was seen cheering loudly in the stands. Trinity shared that famous image on her Instagram after the game with a heartfelt caption that signified how much Dennis showing up that game meant to her.

“This last game was an extremely emotional one. Yes Dennis rodman showed up to an Nwsl game, but also my dad, after YEARS surprised me at a big game in my career,” she wrote. She went on to describe what a unicorn milestone it was for her to because, “My dad doesn’t play a big role in my life at all.” At that time, she said, “I go months if not years without his presence or communication.” 

“When he showed up at my game, I was, like, so mad,” recalled Trinity on the podcast this week. “I started crying on the field. So I’m trying to play the soccer game and I’m crying.” Recalling how that situation felt, Trinity said, “I was so mad. I was like ‘You took this happy moment from me. You f–ked with my head again,’” she said. “I’m walking over there (towards Dennis) so mad, like ‘F**k you.’ I walk over there, he grabs my head and I just start bawling into his arms as if it’s a daddy-daughter (moment).”

The Spirit won the game 1-0 and went on to claim the NWSL title. But things went downhill from there.

Trinity and Dennis Rodman’s reunion was shortlived

In the past, we saw Dennis Rodman with his younger two kids and then-wife, Michelle Moyer, sporadically. Like the 2006 red carpet premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest. When the Rodman clan stepped out to support Dennis at his jersey retirement in 2011, tensions between him and Moyer were at their peak. They would divorce the year after. From that point, Trinity said Dennis was not a present father.

In 2021, Trinity’s post indicated she was hoping for a better relationship her estranged father. “We don’t have the best relationship, but at the end of the day he’s human I’m human… he’s my dad, and I’m his little girl that will never change. I will improve and look forward everyday as I hope he does.” It’s a sentiment she’s repeated many times she’s asked about her dad.

However, since the emotional public reunion in 2021, Dennis once again dipped out of her life as Trinity said on Call her Daddy, “After that, radio silence. I didn’t see him for, like… until this year.” She goes on to express her disappointment in having expectations from her dad.

Though she said, “I answer the phone now for my conscience. If something does happen, God forbid, I want to know that I did that,” Dennis Rodman says as she declines his calls on his apology post (that’s now deleted). And Trinity also declared she was done after he made that post. How the Rodman father-daughter progresses from there remains to be seen.
