Did Taylor Swift fans just majorly help her present love interest? Well, at least Gilbert Arenas believes it did. Notably, former NFL star Travis Kelce’s podcast (New Heights) with his brother Jason Kelce has landed itself a new deal. The Kelce brothers have reportedly signed a 3-year, $100 million contract with Wondery, which is a podcast streamer owned by Amazon. With this deal, the podcast studio will now have distribution rights for the weekly show. But what does this have to do with Taylor Swift or her fans?
“I mean, they got the, you know, the help of the Swifties… I mean, that helps…” the ex-Washington Wizards star said on his show.
The Kelce brothers started the New Heights podcast in 2022 with Wave Sports+ Entertainment. The podcast featured discussions on various topics but it mainly started with the NFL as its focal point. However, when Travis started dating Swift around September last year, the podcast became a destination for Swifties to gain any possible detail on the pop star’s dating life.

“But, you know, it’s just like anything… It’s not an everyday show, right? So it’s still a whole different lane…” Gil further stated on the podcast. But in any scenario, Gilbert Arenas believes the move is overall a good one for the podcast community. “That’s the best thing about podcast. That’s why I say, no podcaster should hate on each other,” he said. Arenas further backed his statement by recalling his initial interaction with Joe Buttons. This was the time when the podcasters were not making much.
Amid such circumstances, Buttons had reached out to Gil to know how much he was getting paid. As per Arenas, Buttons’ logic was that if podcasters don’t talk to each other, it would be easier for production companies or distributors to undercut everyone. Gilbert Arenas recalls that this sort of communication helped everyone to figure out how to move further for their growth. “So the fact that… the Kelce brothers is now [signing a major contact]… So everybody knows how to move. Because all you have to do from there is just numbers,” Gil said.
The New Heights is not the only podcast to land such a major deal recently
The $100 dollar deal is clearly a major milestone for the Kelce brothers’ podcast. “We love this show and the fan base that has grown with us over the last two seasons,” the two brothers said in a recent release. However, theirs is not the only podcast to land such deals, as recently Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast landed a reported $125 deal with SiriusXM.

This comes amid the satellite radio station’s intent of exploring the podcasting space. Earlier, Cooper had parted ways with Barstool Sports in 2021 to join hands with Spotify for a $60 million deal, as per Variety. Similarly, Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes’ SmartLess podcast also sound its way to SiriusXM with a reported deal of more than $100 Million, as per Blomberg. Prior to this, the trio was in a partnership with Amazon for their podcast.

However, the deals have not been all about switching to different networks. Joe Rogan’s The Joe Rogan Experience proved its worth by emerging as the audio streaming provider’s most listened podcast. As a result, the platform signed a reported $250 million extension contract with Rogan. And now the Kelce brothers’ podcast has become the most recent among all to land a major deal.
