Now we know where The Flash got it from. While Dwyane Wade’s athletic prowess was unquestionable, his dad, the original Dwyane Wade, claims he’s superior to any athlete that existed. Y’all just didn’t know it. Dwyane Wade Sr. was on his son’s podcast, The Wine Down, to spread the word about his untapped athletic greatness. D-Wade admitted that his dad could’ve had a promising baseball career. However, a personal tragedy derailed his pro dreams.
For the majority of the episode, Daddy Wade had his son wheezing from his joke that he’s the greatest athlete you never heard of. What makes him great? While the D-Wades, Melos, CP3s are one-track minds, sticking to basketball, and being overly good in one sport, Dwyane Wade Sr. was that rare breed of multi-sport athlete who was average in everything. Top that, Bron! “They only played one. They can’t talk to me.” Any NBA pros still breathing after that burn?
D-Wade made the mistake of saying his dad was below average and got told off for it. So he rephrased it to ask which was his best “above average” sport. Contrary to what we’d think, Senior Wade didn’t answer basketball. The world of baseball didn’t know the icon it could have had in Dwyane Wade Sr. So great, he could’ve been Charlie Hustle after Charlie Hustle. Unfortunately, he couldn’t overcome a personal loss.

“I had a tragedy that happened when I was young right in the peak of me playing baseball. I had a friend that got killed right in front of my eyes and that changed everything,” Wade Sr. recalled. He went to the army after that and gave up on sports.

D-Wade testified for his dad’s talent
The 3x NBA champion casually credited the superior DNA that made him the All-Star he is. He did confirm it’s no joke. He’d seen his dad play baseball and knew he could’ve made the pros. Wade Sr. credited the MLB legend Pete Rose for inspiring him.

“For me, baseball was the greatest sport ‘cuz of Pete Rose,” said Wade Sr. “I modeled myself behind Pete Rose… Pete Rose stole second, I stole third, Rose stole third, I stole home and he hit left I hit right.” Dwyane Sr. claimed to play every position with power, which is why he’s “the greatest player that’s unrecognized in baseball.”

While we’d need proof of Wade Sr’s baseball talents, there’s plenty of proof he’s got the gift of the gab. Daddy Wade could be a regular in D-Wade’s show and we wouldn’t complain.
