It’s a common playbook for NBA legends: after dazzling fans on the court, they pivot to conquering new markets off it. From Michael Jordan’s billion-dollar Nike empire to LeBron James’ media and investment portfolio, athletes are rewriting the playbook of post-retirement success. Enter Tracy McGrady, a basketball icon who’s now stepping into the spotlight not with a basketball, but with a brand that pays homage to his most legendary moment.

The former NBA player recently took to his Instagram to share the launch of his brand 13N35 in association with 88VIP which is a sub-brand of the famous Chinese commerce group, Ali Baba. “20 years ago I scored 13 points in 35 seconds and today l launched my brand 13N35-Thank you to everyone who has been inspired -I did it for You,wrote McGrady as the caption of the story.

McGrady’s 13N35 brand, named after his legendary scoring burst, embodies his mantra of perseverance and peak performance. The brand was initially launched in 2022 in collaboration with Grant Haas of Haas Portman Family Office and CEO of Crave Charles Kim. The brand’s debut product was a bag that was smaller than a normal bag but larger than a fanny bag. Although it’s big enough to accommodate a change of clothes, it was designed to hold various items like a wallet, keys, and even a phone charger.

There’s so much more that I can do. And on the business level is where I want to excel. We got a lot of great things brewing in the business world right now,” said McGrady. To understand the weight of ’13N35′ one must revisit December 9, 2004. With just 35 seconds, the Houston Rockets trailed the San Antonio Spurs by eight points.

This is when McGrady came in with outbursts that included a 4-point play through legend center Tim Duncan and a moving 3-pointer that helped his team win with 1.7 seconds to play. “We were down two, and the only thing I could think of was a three-pointer. I felt like anything I threw up was going in,” said McGrady in a post-game interview.

Before stepping into the entrepreneurial arena, McGrady enjoyed a stellar NBA career. In fifteen seasons, ‘T-Mac’ averaged 19.6 PPG, 5.6 RPG, and 4.4 APG. McGrady, a seven-time All-Star and two-time scoring champ, was selected to be in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017 due to his ability to dominate games.
