“Greatness recognizes greatness.” It’s a sentiment often echoed in the NBA and Tracy McGrady has taken the responsibility to carry on with it. T-Mac, one of the most electrifying scorers in basketball history, with multiple All-Star and scoring champion honors under his belt, recently reminded fans of his reverence for two other icons who set foot on the court wearing the same jersey.
In a captivating Instagram video, McGrady offered a glimpse into his luxurious $8 million worth home, spotlighting a custom-built T-Mac Arena. Among the memorabilia was a framed photograph immortalizing McGrady seated between Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal—whom he called the “greatest” duo in NBA history.
“This is legendary right here though. Two of the greatest (while pointing at Shaq and Kobe), just chilling with them,” said McGrady in the video.

During their time in the NBA, McGrady, Bryant, and O’Neal shared more than just court battles. But they shared a profound understanding of the grind and glory. The duo of Bryant and O’Neal led the Los Angeles Lakers to three consecutive championships (2000-2002). Moreover, their chemistry resulted in unmatched dominance. From 2000 to 2004, they averaged 26.6 points, which is a great score for a duo. Facing the duo was no easy feat either, even for a player of McGrady’s caliber.
Between 2000 and 2004, McGrady faced the Lakers 10 times while starring for the Orlando Magic. Despite his teams often being under matched, T-Mac’s brilliance shone through. During the ten games against the Lakers, McGrady was able to put up a stat line of 24.9 PPG, 6.6 RPG, and 4.3 APG. His high-scoring duels against Kobe became fan favorites, offering a glimpse into the rivalry and camaraderie that defined their relationship.
“I just felt like, you know, he’s been there in those shoes. I felt like, what better person to learn from? This is all new to me than somebody that has already been through it. We hit it off,” said McGrady of Bryant.
McGrady never played alongside Bryant or O’Neal but his individual achievements ensure he’s one of basketball’s all-time greats. He was a 7x NBA All-Star and 2x league scoring champion during his time. But one of his most memorable performances came in 2004 when he dropped 13 in just 33 seconds with 2 layups and 3 shots from beyond the arc and a steal on the San Antonio Spurs, perhaps one of the greatest NBA moments in history.

By sharing this moment on Instagram, McGrady not only celebrates these legends but also reminds fans and future generations about the profound connections that exist within the basketball world. However, if we look at his home, then that’s a whole new paradise.
