2x NBA champion Kenny Smith might soon join LeBron James and other NBA dads, as his son takes another significant step in his career. The Jet’s eldest son, Malloy Smith, is all set to participate in an exposure camp, showcasing his talent to basketball enthusiasts worldwide. The 16-year-old recently committed to performing at Southside Hoops’ “Where You At” Exposure Camp in California. After Smith’s eldest son followed in his footsteps by joining UNC, which program will Malloy commit to?
“2026 Mellor Smith is a 6’6 PG who is always under control and on balance. Frequently creates driving angles to attack the basket, doesn’t get rushed, athletic, and uses length well on the defensive end,” read SouthsideHoops’ welcome message for Malloy. The post also showcased Malloy’s highlights and a message from the 16-year-old. “I’m very excited to come to the SouthsideHoop ‘Where You At’ (WYA) Exposure Camp.”

This camp not only aims to improve the young Smith’s skills but will also put his dedication in the spotlight for numerous college coaches attending the event. It will be held on September 7th in Jackson, Mississippi. This will be an exciting opportunity for the aspiring basketball player, who already has much to showcase to the world.
His dad, Kenny Smith, reposted the camp announcement on his Instagram Stories. Although the 2x NBA champ didn’t add any captions or emojis, the excitement is palpable as the 16-year-old is about to step into an important part of his life and career. Malloy was also recently awarded a scholarship from California State University, Northridge. He made the announcement on his Instagram handle.
Malloy was born to Smith and his ex-wife, Gwendolyn Osborne (a model from The Price Is Right), on March 26, 2008. 12 years after tying the knot in 2006, the two called it quits. Nonetheless, Malloy isn’t Kenny’s only son trying to make a name for himself in basketball. Smith’s son from his previous marriage, KJ Smith, followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the Tar Heels.

What’s your perspective on:
Will Kenny Smith's son live up to his dad's legacy or carve his own path in basketball?
Have an interesting take?
Smith’s eldest son grew up as a Tar Heels fan. Although he spent some time in the Pacific, he eventually followed his heart back to UNC. In 2017, he was accepted by the Tar Heels. However, due to NCAA rules, he was ineligible to participate during his first year.
“I always was a UNC fan growing up. It was always in the back of my mind that UNC was the final destination where I wanted to end up. It was always a dream to say ‘I’m a Tar Heel,” KJ once said.
While the NBA legend’s daughter isn’t interested in sports, Kayla Brianna has built her own fanbase with her R&B music. Both KJ and Brianna are from his first marriage. Many other basketball fathers such as Smith, are eager to guide their kids to take the next level in their career. We can only hope to see Malloy in the NBA one day.
