Team USA’s dismal finish to the 2023 FIBA World Cup came as a shock to fans around the world. After missing out on a medal in the last iteration, fans were expecting more this year. The USA’s failure at the World Cup has had some major reactions. Many fans expressed their disappointment with the team’s performance. Joining them,?NBA legend Charles Barkley gave his two cents about trophies and how he had a noble intention with the medals and awards he won.

Despite being considered the favorite to win the title, the team ended up returning to the country without a medal. Notably, Canada won the Bronze medal game against the USA. Furthermore, there have been reports that superstar LeBron James is looking to be a part of the Olympic squad next year alongside other stars to redeem the humiliating loss.

Charles Barkley’s plans for his awards and medals

Charles Barkley recently made an appearance on a show where he talked about his prized possessions. He was a part of the iconic 1992 Dream Team, which is considered the best team ever assembled. Barkley and his legendary teammates dismantled their opponents and clinched Gold in the Barcelona Olympics.

The Chuckster also played in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and once again helped Team USA win top honors. Individually, he won the 1993 NBA MVP award while going head-to-head with NBA legend Michael Jordan. During the interview, Barkley initially noted that he had given both his Gold medals to his mother and grandmother. After their passing, he had reacquired the medals.

He further disclosed his desire to sell his possessions for charity. Barkley said, “I was getting ready to sell all that stuff. It’s for building underprivileged housing in my hometown. Then the pandemic hit.”

He added that his daughter wanted one of his Gold medals so he was looking to sell the rest of his honors for charity. Chuck stated that he did not believe in keeping all of his awards. He also noted that the two Gold medals and the MVP trophy were the most important laurels of his.

As mentioned above, the 60-year-old won numerous awards during his illustrious career. However, he wasn’t able to win an NBA championship. But that doesn’t bother him too much.

Charles Barkley is unbothered

Charles Barkley?is often made fun of for not winning an NBA title during his career. However, Barkley usually takes it very well. The Philadelphia 76ers legend might have unknowingly revealed the reason behind it by stating his plans for the honors.

After joking that the Bronze medal was worth more than the Gold medal because it was just gold-plated, Chuck disclosed his plans to sell his awards. This explains how Barkley is almost always unbothered by all the jokes about him not winning a ring, as it looks like these awards do not have a huge value to him and he would not mind selling it for a good cause as well.
