Can Paul Pierce still be effective in a 40-yard dash? The Boston Celtics champion believes he is very much capable just because he has started to hit the gym again. However, he got a bit too cocky on his podcast episode with Kevin Garnett, where he revealed that he can beat a Tampa Bay Buccaneers star in a 40-yard race, who in return has now challenged him. As always, Garnett doubted Pierce because he is 46 years old and he is way past his prime.
Anyhow, the 2008 champion thinks he can beat a 347lbs Vita Vea in a 40-yard dash. The Buccaneers defensive tackle is the 13th heaviest player in the NFL right now. However, he is one of the fastest in the league who can complete a 40-yard in just 5.1 seconds. Despite such a challenging number, Pierce believes he can do better. NFL content creator Tony Cavallo, who joined the podcast, shared that Vita Vea is faster than everyone in the room. Pierce got his ego hurt and shared, “Nah he don’t move faster than me right now. I’ve been working out”.
Garnett replied, “He chases quarterbacks for a living”. Well, Pierce was not kidding. He added, “I’ve been running sprints…nobody 400 pounds beating me.” Garnett asked Pierce how quickly he could run a 40-yard and Pierce replied “5.1”. The Big Ticket was in disbelief and he stopped convincing Pierce. But wait, Vita Vea has a challenge for Pierce now.

The 28-year-old is a surprise package. Anyone could only wish they were as fast as him, with a weight like that. As KG said, with 347 pounds on his body, he chases quarterbacks for a living. Vita Vea has his way of moving, and that is exactly why he is in the league. There is a strong case as to why he is a top-10 defensive tackle in the league right now.
He played a pivotal role in bringing his team to the divisional round this season. The Buccaneers suffered a playoff exit today to the Detroit Lions. Anyhow, that did not upset him. Now he is ready for another challenge, and that will be to race Paul Pierce to secure $100k.
