There’s one thing that can be certainly said about the Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal. He will never stop surprising people with his unusual, and sometimes hysterical, actions. Recently, another old clip of the athlete resurfaced on the Internet inviting hilarious reactions from fans.

How the NBA stopped Shaquille O’Neal from breaking backboards

Yes, you read that right! Not only O’Neal’s opponents but the court itself was not spared. Apparently, the big man of the league broke so many backboards that the NBA had to implement new rules. Several backboards were broken as the athletes hung on the rim after dunking the ball. 

During O’Neal’s time with Magic in 1993, he almost broke the entire backboard causing it to fold up. Then again, in his match with the New Jersey Nets, he pulled the entire backboard down. Following this, the NBA made a rule that no player should be allowed to hang on the rim for too long after a dunk. While O’Neal was not the only one, it’s just that his massive build was exactly the extra pressure that could break the backboard.

However, breaking backboards is one thing, breaking bones is another. Had the massive build of Shaq ever collided with the spectators, it would have been a major calamity. An old clip surfaced on Instagram where many basketball players collided with the spectators sitting in the front rows. However, when it was Shaq who was about to do the same, what happened after was hilarious.

Just as Shaq was about to collide with the crowd, everyone seemed to just run for their lives, clearing the front row just as the big man approached. However, he just stopped short at the last moment and gave a cheeky look. This was in contrast to every other player in the clip who fell right into the spectators. They did so without drawing any kind of reflex action from the crowd.
