The Chicago Bulls were utterly dominant throughout the ’90s. When Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen suited up for the team, they were 6-0 in the NBA Finals. However, a surprising addition to the team was the poaching of their opponents. While fans point to Dennis Rodman’s hustle or Steve Kerr’s shot-making, an overlooked aspect of those teams was the amount of talent they stole from their previous opponents. As they say, keep your friends close, and your enemies…

During the first 6 years of Jordan’s career, he could not overcome the formidable Eastern Conference. First, it was the legendary Boston Celtics featuring Larry Bird and Kevin McHale. Eventually, as the Celtics core grew older, a few Bad Boys took their place.

In the Detroit Pistons, Michael met arguably his greatest hurdle. While they used immense physicality on Michael Jordan, the results were there to see. During their back-to-back championships in ’89 and ’90, the Pistons eliminated a Michael-Scottie duo from the playoffs both times.

Eventually, the Bulls overcame those challenges en route to their first three-peat. However, after Michael came back, the true value of the Pistons lineup came to the forefront. During the second three-peat, 4 players from those Pistons teams of old made it into the Bulls lineup.

As Dennis Rodman describes it, “We got four players from the Pistons that we beat them for the two-peat…And like wow and they playing with us.”?Obviously, the group was able to move past any lingering issues.

But it couldn’t have been easy for Rodman, who once left his future teammate Scottie, a bloody mess on the hardwood floor.

On the way to their first championship, the Bulls locked horns with the Pistons yet again. After disappointing losses in back-to-back seasons, the third time proved to be the charm. Finally, Scottie Pippen and His Airness made it past the Bad Boys.

However, the series took a heavy toll on Pippen’s body. During the Conference Finals, the?Worm?committed a hard foul on Scottie that led to 6 stitches for the Bulls’ no. 33. However, in retrospect, Rodman has made it clear that it was a “bad move”?on his part.

Thankfully, the duo moved past it as Rodman has become a vocal Pippen fan. Maybe, winning 3 championships together will do that to ya.
