Andre Ward's three-word dismissal—Is he right about the Stevenson vs. Harutyunyan fight being a snooze fest?

The much-anticipated fight between Shakur Stevenson and Artem Harutyunyan went for 12 full rounds, entertaining the boxing fans for an hour straight. However, former Los Angeles Lakers star Nick Young has a few complaints about it. Young is an ardent fan of boxing, but the above fight did not catch his attention until it went into the ring today. Well, he has someone to blame for that. But, before we get there, here are a few reasons why Young might have felt Stevenson vs Harutyunyan was “a**”.

ESPN must have benefitted by streaming and telecasting the fight between Stevenson and Harutyunyan because these two professionals did not want to give up until the very end. Although Stevenson took the advantage in most of the rounds by landing a few accurate blows, Harutyunyan was not bothered by it. He took a step back to play solid defense, yet when it came to returning the punches, he failed.

After 7 rounds, Stevenson reduced the aggressiveness. He had already landed 74 of 163 punches. Sadly, this frustrated Nick Young. The 2018 Warriors champion tweeted, “This fight a**”, openly criticizing the two for a seemingly dull fight. However, he did not want to stop watching.

After 12 rounds, Shakur Stevenson retained his WBC lightweight title with a unanimous decision. He is now 22-0-0. It’s good that Young tuned in at the right time. The NBA champion was initially not aware that Stevenson had a fight today. He tweeted, “They gotta stop doing secret pop up with Shakur Stevenson fights…who knew he had a fight today,” blaming ESPN for not promoting the fight properly. Oh, Young also blamed Stevenson for something that happened during the fight.

Nick Young mocks Stevenson for not listening to his grandfather

Wali Moses, the grandfather of Stevenson, is the reason why the American boxer stepped foot in the ring. Moses was a boxing coach and it has been his dream to see Stevenson succeed. Well, Moses must be a happy man today because his grandson is undefeated after 22 fights. That’s indeed something historic. However, Stevenson was not a great student today.

Have an interesting take?

Moses stood in the corner of the ring to coach and support Stevenson. Especially during breaks, Moses tried to give some advice to his grandson, but he was too focused on the fight. Young tweeted, “Shakur dnt listen at all in that corner lol…Shakur and his grandfather in the corner best part of this fight lol.” It was funny for Young after a point.

Stevenson kept saying during breaks that he would finish Harutyunyan in 5-7 rounds, and wouldn’t listen to his grandfather. A user on X tweeted, “Stop talking while your grandfather is talking Shakur. Just listen damn,” to which Young replied, “lol I was tho other same thing and he keep saying imma stop him 5 rounds ago.” Anyhow, Stevenson got the best of his opponent. He is back at the top, but this fight was not the best one for Young.
