Everyone has had something to say about the NIL. Many have praised it as a positive system. But Sir Charles, who has made significant contributions to support the NIL, pointed out one major flaw. The media veteran has never been one to mince words while sharing his honest opinions. It wasn’t different this time as he criticized the NCAA system that led to the creation of NIL.

Barkley believes the current NIL situation stems from how the NCAA treated college players. The NCAA punished the players harshly for minor violations. The system was quite strict with the college programs as well as the players. This approach eventually led to the introduction of NIL, which allows players to be compensated. “They (NCAA) have nobody to blame but themselves,” Chuck said.

“When they were suspending guys for getting peanut butter instead of butter on their bagels and suspending guys for more getting than one pair of shoes and suspending guys for selling their bowl jerseys. They’re just idiots,Sir Charles claimed.

He explained that the NIL had to be created because the NCAA failed to adapt at the right time and in the right way. The NIL began in 2021 which basically allows the players to earn money through their name, likeness, and image. Bronny James, Livvy Dunne, and more such athletes have earned millions thanks to this rule.

Before the rule came into being, the NCAA was too harsh on the college players. By the current situation, he emphasized the differences that have been created among the schools.

Charles Barkley highlighted how certain schools now gain more power and influence in recruiting by offering more lucrative NIL deals. He believes that some schools might not be able to compete. He added, “I hate NIL, because it’s just become a bidding war, and I think a lot of schools are not going to be able to compete.” Though he has been critical of certain things but that hasn’t held him from extending a helping hand wherever required.
