Dirk Nowitzki has been enjoying the past few days. This weekend, he got his name etched in the NBA Hall of Fame. Justifiably, the Dunking Deutschman has had an impressive career. Over the course of his 21-year stint with the Dallas Mavericks, he joined the elite club of players who have scored 30,000 points. Notably, he also won his only championship against a Miami Heat super team. What the basketball world might not be aware of is that just like his basketball career, he had an equally interesting wedding too.
The iconic #41 was in the latest list of players whose name is set to go down in basketball history. NBA writer Marc J Spears congratulated the Hall of Famer recently and also brought into light an interview where Dirk opened up on the unique wedding ritual he had to go through.

Many would agree on the fact that the 2007 NBA MVP Dirk is a GOAT for the Dallas Mavericks franchise. But in an interview given to Andscape years ago, the 7-footer opened up on a bizarre wedding ritual. Of course, he just had to get a gift for his in-laws. But you won’t guess what it was.
After winning his only ring, Dirk decided to share one with his wife as well. In 2012, they were set to tie the knot. But a ritual almost led him to buy her parents an actual goat!
Dirk said, “They took my wife away. They brought five or six girls out and they were all covered. So the first thing I had to do was find my wife. I guess it?s one of the traditions. If you get it wrong, you got to pay the parents a goat or something,”?explained the German.
He then went on to break down what happened. “So I was lucky. I smelled her to find the right one. So, I got lucky there. But that was just an experience that I?ll never forget.”

Dirk was able to pick out his wife from the bunch all thanks to his superior olfactory ability. It saved him the hassle of buying a goat for his in-laws. This was a rather interesting revelation as people got the idea of what a Kenyan marriage can look like.
Nowitzki, in a recent interview, refuted the rumors that he would try to emulate six-time champion Michael Jordan while giving his Hall of Fame speech.

Michael Jordan gave a 23-minute long speech when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The Dallas legend was asked if he wants to take inspiration from Michael and give a 41-minute-long speech as he famously wore the number 41.
He replied, “I think they would cut me off long before that. Obviously, this is an amazing class and everyone wants to share their journey. So I don?t want to make this a 30-minute-type ordeal.”

He made it clear that the audience would not appreciate a long speech as it might get monotonous after a while. He lived up to his promise as his speech fell just a hair under 17 minutes. Have you heard it yet?
