It’s not easy winning an NBA Championship title. But Michael Jordan was able to win three consecutive titles twice. Jordan’s path to NBA Championships was not full of roses, though. In fact, he faced some formidable opponents on his road to his first NBA title. A recent incident came to light when the five-time MVP implemented rather harsh and stringent methods to instill a winning mentality in his teammates.

His Airness was known for spewing venom from his mouth. He had a reputation for going hard on his teammates to bring out the absolute best in them. It’s probably his willingness to go to extreme lengths in order to win that separates him from everyone.

Michael Jordan imposed strict rules on teammates

The Chicago Bulls and the Detroit Pistons were known to be fierce rivals back in the late 80s. The Pistons knocked out the Bulls multiple times in the playoffs. Detroit, aptly named ‘Bad Boys’, had a reputation for getting physical with their opponents and they did the same with Jordan and Co.

In the book ‘There’s No Next‘, author Sam Smith reminded fans of the time when the Bulls got kicked out of title contention by Detroit. While the team was making plans on how they will spend their off-season, Jordan made it clear to everyone that none of them were allowed to wander off for their vacations as he wanted them back on the court for training.

Jordan said, “I want to make them understand how much it hurt.”?Jordan assumed that his teammates were taking the loss to the Pistons rather casually and wanted to make sure that they understood what it takes to win against a formidable team like Detroit.

Jordan and the Bulls were able to clinch their first-ever NBA title in 1991 after overcoming the Pistons in the Conference Finals. They were knocked out by the Pistons consecutively in the previous two seasons. Moreover, the rivalry wasn’t just between the teams, but also between the stars.

Michael Jordan and Isiah Thomas feud

Michael Jordan and Isiah Thomas have been famously feuding with each other for decades. Both of them are famed Hall of Famers. A few months back Thomas made some interesting remarks against his former rival MJ. Thomas wanted Jordan to apologize to him publicly for cursing him out and expressing hatred towards him.

Jordan hasn’t replied to Zeke yet. It follows in what has become a one-sided rivalry, in which Thomas continues to slam MJ while His Airness doesn’t pay heed to his comments. It’ll be interesting to see if MJ will touch up on his relationship with the two-time champion in the future.
