Did Scotty Pippen Jr. get robbed of the MVP? Is this a slap in the face to his talent?

A week later, fans still can’t believe what they witnessed in Las Vegas. Scotty Pippen Jr. getting snubbed for the Summer League MVP left many in disbelief. However, the outrage didn’t end with the fans; Scotty’s mother, Larsa Pippen, made her thoughts on her son’s performances clear on Instagram, stating, “Stats don’t lie.” Scotty recently shared photos from his successful time at the Summer League, and the comment section exploded, not just with fans, but with some surprising names, sparking even more conversation.

Throughout the Summer League, the Memphis Grizzlies star performed at the highest level. Many believe he has the potential to carry on his father’s legacy and even surpass the sons of other former NBA stars. The 23-year-old point guard averaged an impressive 21.8 points per game, shooting 47.3% from the field and an outstanding 55% from beyond the arc. In comparison, the MVP winner, Jalen Wilson of the Brooklyn Nets, averaged 21.5 points with a 46.1% field goal percentage and a 32% shooting percentage from the three-point range.

Not only did Scotty outshine him in scoring, but fans also pointed out his superiority in assists. The Grizzlies star averaged 8.7 assists per game, showcasing his playmaking skills. Meanwhile, Jalen Wilson averaged just one assist per game throughout his Summer League run. While Jalen led the rebound charts with 5 RPG compared to Scotty’s 4.6 RPG, many felt that Scotty’s overall contributions were more significant, considering his team reached the Final.

Another critical argument was Jalen’s absence from the All-Star Summer League First Team, a distinction Scotty earned. In a post-game interview, Scotty confidently stated, “I am the best defender in the Summer League.” Although Scotty Pippen Jr. was seen as the frontrunner in the MVP race, it’s important to note that Jalen Wilson’s performance cannot be entirely dismissed.

Despite the controversy, fans remain divided, continuing to express their opinions whenever they get the opportunity.

Friends, family, and fans are still dissatisfied with the Summer League MVP selection

Scotty’s mother, Larsa Pippen, stood by her son throughout the Summer League campaign, never shying away from voicing her opinions on social media. After the Final, she reposted Grind City Media’s post and captioned it, “Stats don’t lie @spippenjr was the MVP of summer league.” In Scotty’s recent post, she commented “MVP” with a red heart, while his brother, Justin Pippen, expressed his support with a ‘high-five’ emoji.

Moreover, Scotty gained significant support from his teammates and NBA professionals. 2x All-Star Ja Morant commented on Scotty’s post with a ‘flexed biceps’ emoji. Trey Jemison, another teammate, joined Larsa by commenting “MVPP” with a thunder emoji. Even Cole Swider, the Miami Heat power forward who was part of the winning team in Vegas, chimed in with “Masterclass.”

Fans, too, have been vocal about their disappointment with the MVP selection. One fan commented, “MVP and if they have any (basketball emoji) IQ, they better sign you long term whether it’s Memphis or whoever!!!” Another fan added, “You the real Summer League MVP.” Interestingly, Pippen Jr. signed a two-year, two-way contract with Memphis in January and has seemingly found a new home.

Even though he was a big part of the rotation due to the Grizzlies’ injury troubles, fans have expressed they would like to see him continue being a part of the rotation after the return of the stars.

Many fans also emphasized that Scotty is NBA-ready and deserves a long-term contract. One fan noted, “This kid should get a full contract already. Griz got him as a bargain for a two-way contract.” Another stressed that Scotty is likely to follow in his father’s footsteps, saying, “It’s almost the same path as his dad when the Bulls signed him long term for a bargain.”
