The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t had an ideal start to their season. Due to injuries and the short-lived minutes restriction on LeBron James, the team hasn’t gotten off to a strong start. Instead, they’ve been blown out twice and barely won its 3 games in the clutch. However, some of the team’s key components have not had the best start to the year either. Promising young talent Austin Reaves hasn’t taken the leap according to most expectations. Further, the improved bench unit is yet to show its true ceiling. Through the first 6 games, D’Angelo Russell has been a rollercoaster. While his start was extremely slow, he was sensational in the team’s performances against the Los Angeles Clippers and the Orlando Magic in LA.

However, his last performance, again against Orlando, was a misfire. Due to the up-and-down nature of his season, most aren’t sure of what to expect from Russell day in and day out. But, Robert Horry believes there is an easy fix for the team, or at least D’Lo’s, problems. On the Spectrum SportsNet show,?Big Shot?had this to say.

His offense is smooth when he gets going and has confidence. I think when you watch D’Lo, he is one of the craftiest guys you’ll ever see. But, I think he should be basic, and try to take that swag out…Don’t try all the fadeaways. Just knock your bucket down and get out of this 1 for 10 rut you in.”?

In a gritty challenge against the Miami Heat today, Russell’s play was considerably better. While he only scored 13 points, they came at a decent efficiency. But it was a disappointing end to the night for the 27-year-old as he was ejected after a double technical. To add to his misery, the Lakers lost their second game in Florida in 3 days as Miami edged out a thriller 108-107.
