Are the Lakers setting LeBron up for failure with their lackluster offseason moves?

It seems like LeBron James’ historic season alongside his son won’t be smooth sailing. The Lakers failed to add any important player as multiple players rejected the franchise. Even in the first preseason game, they lost to the Suns. Although, these games’ records don’t matter currently, but any team would love to build momentum. Yet it seems 4x NBA Champion had an issue before heading out for his next matchup.

Can someone please explain to me why we’re getting on a ✈️ and heading to Milwaukee for 1 pre-season game!?!?” Former teammate and current analyst Richard Jefferson couldn’t wait to add misery to LeBron’s wounds. “Bro I’m surprised you on that plane 🤣.

It’s a valid question from the Lakers star to the front office as they only play 1 game in Milwaukee. It’s obvious that King James is less enthused with his team’s journey to the Midwest. Preseason is also a sore subject for RJ because it was when Cleveland decided to pull the plug on his NBA career. The Hawks made a trade an hour before the clash against the Orlando Magic, involving Jefferson and Kay Felder, the rookie at the time.

RJ was on the court practicing and ultimately played his final season with the Denver Nuggets. Speaking about one last hurrah, the ESPN analyst was quick to dismiss LeBron James‘ claim of his last Olympics. The 3x Gold medal winner explained that he won’t participate in the 2028 LA Olympics.

Even said, “I’m getting the hell out of that city when the Olympics come.” Jefferson had a one-word reply or, to be precise, one emoji reply to the former teammate’s comments. “🧢.” However, the 17-season NBA veteran was more articulated when the matter was about analyzing the Lakers’ upcoming season.

Richard Jefferson on Lakers title chances

What’s your perspective on:

Are the Lakers setting LeBron up for failure with their lackluster offseason moves?

Have an interesting take?

“You look at an incomplete team, an incomplete roster from the standpoint is, they don’t have enough dogs,” Jefferson said via ESPN’s NBA Today. “But I will say this, you look at the defending champions, the Boston Celtics, the Lakers are three All-Star players-caliber players away from being on their level… Three All-Star caliber players that’s how far the Lakers are away from being on the same tier.”

RJ even mocked LeBron James’ probability of winning a fifth ring as a player. “Fifth ring count if he does it as an owner?” But Jefferson’s comments are not far from the truth. The Lakers lack player quality, which is why the front office tried hard for an addition. At the time, even King James for ready to deduct his salary to help the franchise.

But that situation did not work out in the Purple and Gold team’s favor. With Bronny James alongside him, it might also indicate that LeBron probably will look to finish his career with his son. But it’s not a guarantee, and the only thing guaranteed is that the 4x MVP is definitely frustrated with the front office’s planning in terms of players and terms of travel.
