Stunned by ‘17 Times Larger’ Shaquille O’Neal’s “Beautiful” Underwear, 5ft 9 Singer’s Likely ‘Encounter’ With Lakers Legend Disclosed

When life throws you Shaq-sized lemons, roll with it. That’s what one half of a performance group found out while staying at a hotel. Shaquille O’Neal enlisted his famous friends for a glamourous night of charity on October 7. He also ensured his artists had Big Diesel-approved hospitality for the occasion. His artists are close friends that go way back. However, staying in close vicinity of Shaq has some drawbacks.

The celebrity in question went with the flow. After all, not many get to be mistaken for the Shaquille O’Neal.

O’Neal’s charity event headliner goes from Shay to Shaq

Among the A-list lineup at The Event, Shaquille O’Neal also invited country-pop duo, Dan + Shay to perform. The Event benefits The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation in an annual gala of music, comedy, and charity. The duo were the musical act, but one of them came packed with comedy.

Shay Mooney of the band narrated the time he was mistaken for the Los Angeles Lakers legend.

It happened when he was staying at a fancy LA hotel. The staff, referring to him as “Mr Mooney,” handed him his dry-cleaning even though the singer didn’t seem to recall leaving any clothes for the service. In his room, he found a bag with what looked like a black shirt he left.

What he thought was a shirt at first glance turned out to be a ginormous pair of boxer shorts. “Me, Dan [Smyers], and several of our friends could have fit inside of [the boxers,]” Mooney told the audience in the MGM Grand.

He investigated and found more oversized clothes for a tall person in the closet. “I realized that my name, Shay, is just one letter away from being another gentleman’s name. He’s about 17 times my size.” The hitmaker stands at 5’9″. The titan he got mixed up with is a cool 7’1″.

After this goof-up, Shay rolled with it. He tried on the giant clothes, took photos, and sent them out to his friends. He even Facetimed his bandmate to show him. The t-shirt he tried on looked like a woman’s dress on him making him feel rather elegant.

“It was beautiful. It was stunning, and I’m pretty sure it was Shaquille O’Neal’s,” Mooney said about the clothes he chanced upon.

The Event is in its third year, topping the previous gala with everyone lineup.

This time Shaquille O’Neal invited John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Ray Romano, and Joel McHale along with Dan+Shay and Anderson Paak.

The night’s most prominent VIP was Shaq’s mom, Lucille O’Neal. Her exclusive seat was on the stage thanks to a $20,000 donation from her NBA legend son. She got to watch Smyers and Mooney along with the other performers up close.

Lucille doesn’t need to be near to know Shay is not Shaq. But it was a story worth sharing in front of the magnanimous giant. What did you think about this goof-up?
