Being in a funk and a state of confusion and uncertainty can be scary and unpleasant. It is equally challenging to get out of it as well. Most people experience a slump or go through a rough patch in their life. And it’s not uncommon for athletes. However, the most important part is to get out of the funk. NBA giant Shaquille O’Neal who once went through a similar situation shared his experience recently.

O’Neal has always been one of the most enthusiastic and cheerful personalities in the league. He is known for his jolly attitude. However, the Big Diesel had a tough time dealing with these unannounced emotions during and after his career. 

Shaquille O’Neal talks about breaking out of a funk

12 days after his electric performance at the Lollapalooza concert, Shaquille O’Neal opened up about his struggles. He also spoke about what helped him to get out of the funk. During his tenure, the 4x NBA champion experienced getting into a funk. While driving away these unwelcome thoughts are extremely exhausting, O’Neal’s efforts deserve tumultuous applause. 

In an interview, the Big Aristotle was asked if he was in a funk or slump after his retirement. To which he replied, “Yes, I don’t like to use the d-word because I know a lot of people are going through that stuff and I really have nothing to like to make me feel like that.”

He continued, “But yeah so I was definitely in the funk. When you realize there are more people suffering than what you have, I had to say to myself stop being a brat and man up.”

The Los Angeles Lakers legend added that this comes from his father’s teachings. He also revealed how music is one of the many things that boosted his spirits. While music might have got him out of the funk, it also helped him establish his name in the music industry. 

Shaquille O’Neal’s impressive music career

While ruling the basketball court, he dominated the world of music with his talent. His debut album, ‘Shaq Diesel’ received a platinum certification from the RIAA. And it’s safe to say that he has been successful in his DJ career. Recently, DJ Diesel performed for a 115,000 crowd at the Lollapalooza concert. He shared a glimpse of the concert on his Instagram and wrote, “Lollapalooza..that was the biggest crowd I’ve DJed for.”
