Is Shaq right about Gobert being overpaid, or is he just stirring the pot again?

When you name a player your WOAT, you don’t miss any opportunity against him and Shaq is doing just that. For those unaware, Shaquille O’Neal named Rudy Gobert the “Worst Player of All Time” during an interview with Complex. And while the former LA Lakers star had so far mostly roasted Rudy for his game, this time he got something different.

Appearing on his The Big Podcast, Shaq got into a discussion about Gobert’s recent altercation with Russell Westbrook. “Why is he so scared of Russell Westbrook… Like you see his face… Whoever the cameraman on that (clip), you get [claps],” Shaq said. Further mocking Gobert by imitating funny expressions, Shaq referred to the fact that the Minnesota Timberwolves star stepped back and seemed to appear scared when Russ charged at him.

If you missed the action, it all started in last Friday’s game between the Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets. The latter team’s Christian Braun delivered a powerful dunk on Gobert. And the moment triggered an altercation between the two players. However, the moment Rudy pushed Braun holding by his neck, Westbrook couldn’t help but take a stand for his teammate. He raged towards Gobert, only for the officials and other players to quickly take control of the matter.

And let’s just say, Gobert’s response didn’t go unnoticed. Fans were quick to point out his hesitation. And Shaq saw it as the perfect chance to throw in his two cents on his podcast. Now, this recent jab is hardly surprising. As mentioned earlier, Shaquille O’Neal has made it clear that he’s no fan of the 4x DPOY. His past $205 million contract with the Utah Jazz is a figure Shaq finds, let’s say, hard to justify.

“If you sign a contract for 250 [million], show me 250,” O’Neal said, insisting that players paid this much need to deliver. He’s even brought up his own career, mentioning how he gave it all for his $120 million. “You got guys like him that f*ck the system over and they’re making all this money and they can’t f*king play. I don’t respect guys like that,” he added.

Have an interesting take?

Gobert, of course, didn’t take this lying down. He turned to social media to share his disappointment, pointing out how strange it is for a legendary player like Shaq to be so caught up in another man’s paycheck. It’s clear neither of them is backing down anytime soon, leaving fans to wonder if Shaq will ever give Gobert his due.

Shaquille O’Neal reveals what Rudy needs to do to impress him

Appearing on an episode of The Big Podcast, Mario Chalmers stated how he’s not a Gobert fan on the defensive end and thinks he’s a little overrated. Shaq’s response to Chalmers? “Thank you. Love you.” He doubled down on his guest’s opinion. Highlighting that there are not a lot of centers that make Rudy him play defense.

“He’s not doing that against Joker because he has to be engaged, but when he’s going against another guy, he’s 7 6. Of course, if you lay it up, he going to block it,” Shaq added. But defense for the 4x NBA champ is about shutting a player down from scoring.

Big Diesel stated he would be impressed by Rudy Gobert the day he can hold Nikola Jokic under 15 points. “You’re playing all that weak side, blocking shot. That’s cool. But it ain’t gonna work against guys like me and Joker and, you know, Embiid,’ he added. Well, there is no surety when that’ll happen. So, for now, all Shaquille O’Neal seems to care for is the scared expression of Gobert against Russ that he finds hilarious. Once again, thanks the cameraman.
