Is banning Curry's three-pointers like banning Iverson's crossover? How would it change their legacies?

The best point guard discussion got another layer recently when Stephen Curry did the night-night routine post his back-to-back 3s in the semifinals and finals that majorly helped Team USA grab the gold. To bring in a different angle to the comparisons with other guards, Gilbert Arenas put forth a different perspective. He questioned Stephen Curry’s HOF contention if his best shot was taken away as he compared the situation with the banned move of Allen Iverson.

I carried my crossover all the way into the Hall of Fame. So, there you go.” It was an emphatic reply from Allen Iverson to people who criticized his go-to move. Recently, Gilbert Arenas asked his crew, “If we take that (3 PT shot) away, is he still dangerous?” He also had a follow-up question. “Is he hall of fame dangerous?

Rashad McCants initially was in affirmation, which prompted the follow-up question from Gilbert Arenas. His answer to the second question was the opposite of the first. McCants also said “no” to Curry being considered a top-two guard without the three-point shot. Then Arenas spoke about the difference concerning Allen Iverson. “AI came in with the what? Unstoppable crossover. His crossover was so unstoppable that they banned his move.

As per Slate.com, the league doubled down in its efforts to find faults in the crossover. And at the start of 2000, they were successful in banning the move. But, that didn’t stop Iverson’s scoring routine. In his 12-season career with the Philadelphia 76ers, he averaged 27.6 points and 30.9 FT%.

Before speaking about any other player, let’s look at Allen Iverson’s preferred players. On a podcast with the President of Reebok, AI was asked about his all-time starting lineup. Not only because he serves as the Vice President of Basketball in Reebok but because of the domination on the court, Shaquille O’Neal was part of the list along with Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry.

The 76ers legend insisted on keeping the Warriors star on the list. But, another person who did make the list on Arenas was Kyrie Irving. “Kyrie [Irving] is a snail compared to f****ng Allen Iverson…Think about how many combo moves Kyrie has to do to get by somebody? One move, this is all AI had to do.

With all said and done, nobody could take away Iverson’s records. After Jordan and Kobe Bryant, AI was the one who had the best perimeter-scoring abilities. The 5’11 guard used this speed to the fullest. Despite questioning Curry’s HOF contention, Gilbert Arenas made it clear that he wouldn’t want to guard him. Calling both AI and Chef Curry “a headache” to guard. Even appreciated both of them for excelling in two different aspects of a guard.
