Who is the greatest point guard in NBA history? The debate is still going strong. Although the answer is very clear for some, many fans are still having a hard time choosing between Magic Johnson and Stephen Curry. The two-point guards played in different eras of basketball. But they were both undeniably the best point guards during their time. Magic Johnson, with his height and passing ability, changed the traditional view of what a point guard can be for a team. Stephen Curry, with his shooting prowess and movement, also brought major changes to the NBA and how a team plays defense.

While Johnson won 5 NBA championships with 19.5 PPG, Curry is not far behind with 4 NBA titles. He is currently averaging 24.7 PPG in the 15 seasons played so far. With both the icons going neck on neck in terms of stats, another question was recently brought up to the fans, and this has divided the community.

Fans were initially swayed in Johnson’s direction solely because of his height. Magic Johnson is 6’9″ while Curry stands at 6’2″. The fans thought that this will definitely give him an advantage. If Johnson has the ball, he can just post up Curry all the way to the basket and just score on him.

However, some fans felt differently about this. We have already seen Curry make over 100 threes without missing during practice. He is the greatest shooter in the history of basketball. So when he is playing 1-on-1, it would be much harder to guard him, as he has a lot more space.

Some fans also spoke about Curry’s finishing abilities. He has a great floater, and his body control is elite, which helps him finish at the rim. Further, Curry is a stamina reservoir that can run around the court the whole day while also making their opponents have to defend him just as he crosses the half court.

Others wanted to make things clear that, as a player, Magic Johnson might be better, but in strictly 1-on-1, Stephen Curry might just have the edge. Although it is extremely hard to choose between these two NBA greats, but for Michael Jordan, it was an easy pick.

He placed Curry right behind Magic Johnson. However, even after such a statement from the NBA icon, the point guard debate is most likely to go on.
