Even before LeBron James made his debut in the league, SI gave him the title of ‘The Chosen One.‘ Now entering his 22nd NBA season, very few critics still question the 4x Champion’s abilities. Contrastingly, Bronny James did not have the same hype with respect to his father and was always predicted as a second-round pick. So can he prove everyone wrong and carve his own legacy? Matt Barnes explained his stance on Lakers’ No. 9 and also spoke about the next face of the league.

“I think it might be by committee.” The former NBA Champion said to the host, Charlamagne tha God. Even Stephen Jackson agreed with the notion, “There ain’t gonna be one face like Bron.” Matt Barnes further named multiple players who the league can try to portray as their next face.

“It would be by committee, I think it’ll be Ant, I think it could be a little bit of Jayson Tatum. I think it could be some Luka Doncic, I think it could be some Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Victor Wembanyama.” The former Warriors star did not name Bronny James, who has been under fire for comments made by his father. Recently LeBron James stated that his son’s capabilities were clear since the age of 5. But Jeff Teague was not on board with the claims.

“I f**k with LeBron, I f**k with the whole moment. But the only thing I didn’t feel I was like he said when he was like five years old he seen the n***a and was like yeah, he going to the league, like stop. I love y’all to death. I love your whole family, but bro,” said Teague during the podcast. Even the summer league and the preseason games for the 19-year-old have been difficult. Maybe that’s why Barnes spoke about already proven talent in the league.

“I think the league is in a great place as far as just young talent like we haven’t seen in a long time.” The 44-year-old said on The Breakfast Club. Previously on the same podcast, both Matt Barnes and Jackson also shared how Bronny could develop his game further.

Could Bronny be the next face? Matt Barnes highlights the key issues

Stephen Jackson shared that Bronny has all the facilities and not to forget the mentorship of LeBron James. The former Spurs star also pointed out, “I think he has everything he needs. I think he’s definitely going to blossom.” Even Matt Barnes agreed with that point but gave a disclaimer to the people who compare the father-son duo.

“I don’t think you look at Bronny in the same light as you look at LeBron to compare. I just think he’s going to be a very solid role player.” Barnes also stated that the 19-year-old will take time to develop for the big stage, unlike his father, who came into the league with a lot of expectations.

“I mean, he’s got a high IQ, plays defense, can make the right play, and can shoot the ball. So I just think he needed a little bit more time to develop, and now he’s developing on the biggest stage. But I think, you know, two, three, four years down the line, he’s going to be a very solid rotational player.” Since Matt Barnes thinks Bronny will need more time to settle, he named already-established stars as the next face of the league.
