Netflix heard us all! After a hit first season of its Starting Five, we’re getting season 2. Once again, it will not only give a closer glimpse at the league through the lens of star NBA players, but it will also show their stories to us. The names of the five NBA stars for Season 2 have been revealed to fans, and, as expected, excitement is at an all-time high. However, this news might not sit as well with Boston Celtics legends Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, as the list dashed any hopes of seeing two European NBA stars that they hoped for.
Before the official list was announced, former NBA teammates and best buddies Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce shared whom they’d like to see in season 2. While their lists were quite different, they shared one thing in common. Both The Big Ticket and The Truth hoped to see certain European players included.
Garnett wanted to see Frenchman Victor Wembanyama and Slovenian star Luka Doncic for Season 2. “Luka. I feel like I party with Luka. Luka like he fun, you know what I’m saying? Luka look like you (Pierce) and him would have a f***g unbelievable time together. Wemby, I love young Wemby. Him on his journey. I think seeing how he and Chris Paul are together!” Garnett said about his wish.

On the other hand, 10x NBA All-Star Paul Pierce wanted to see Nikola Jokic. He seemed particularly interested in the 3x NBA MVP’s offseason passion for horse racing. “I got to throw Joker in there. I got to see what his little, you know, horse races is all about,” Pierce said.
However, all three European stars were snubbed from the official list shared by Netflix. The new season will feature Kevin Durant, the reigning Finals MVP Jaylen Brown, OKC Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, and James Harden.

Interestingly, Kevin Garnett had Brown and Shai on his list, so he’ll still have something to look forward to. For Pierce, however, his wish to see Ja Morant, Lamelo Ball, will not be fulfilled. He also wanted to see an OG in DeMar DeRozan. While that won’t be happening, he will get to see a 15-year NBA veteran in James Harden. Well, at least Pierce got one name right, Kevin Durant. However, the Phoenix Suns veteran was initially hesitant to appear on the show.
Kevin Durant was hesitant to feature in season 2
Even with the Euro stars snubbed, the current roster is as promising as the first one. Season 1 starred LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum, and European star Domantas Sabonis. The show was produced by Peyton Manning and Higher Ground’s Barack and Michelle Obama.

The Suns veteran is one such superstar who has always shown kindness to his fans. However, he prefers to keep his personal life to himself. “I don’t know if that’s for me or not. You know what I mean? I like this. This is my ‘Starting 5’ right here,” Durant said a few weeks ago.
Durant didn’t seem very keen on having cameras follow him around. But he must have changed his mind as the official list by Netflix had his name. Durant has done that before; he previously participated in the documentary The Offseason: Kevin Durant. This documentary gave a glimpse of Durant’s life during the offseason. As mentioned before, the current roster is equally interesting.
