Victor Wembanyama has mostly lived up to expectations so far. Although he is only 19 years old, he is already one of the best players on the San Antonio Spurs roster. The Spurs have a history of developing young big men, and it’s safe to say that Victor is in the right place. A San Antonio icon has taken note of the French rookie. As the hype surrounding the 7’4″ star keeps increasing day by day, the 71-year-old decided to remain silent and let time tell all tales.
It’s hard to deny the talent shown by Wembanyama. Being 7’4″ has its advantages, but Wembanyama has developed his skills and instincts in all aspects of the game, and that is the reason why he is dominating right now in the NBA.

In a recent episode of the LeBatard Show, the special guest was San Antonio Spurs legend George Gervin. The Iceman was one of the best players in the NBA during the 1970s and 1980s. He was one of the leading scorers in the league while being 6’7 and averaged 33 PPG in the 1979?80 season. Gervin was asked about the 19-year-old rookie drafted by the Spurs and the impact that he has on the game.
Dan’s producer, Mike Bryan Ruiz, jokingly said, “I don’t understand this whatsoever. Cheating the game. Should be a higher hoop. George Gervin had to go up against titans at 6’7 and develop the world’s greatest finger roll. Wembanyama just goes on his tippy toes. It’s a different game that they are playing right now and it’s not fair. It does a disservice to the legends like George ‘The Iceman’ Gervin.'”

Gervin seemed to be confused about what he was asked. After he just laughed it off, Dan assumed he agreed with the producer. However, that wasn’t the case as the 9x NBA All-Star stated, “I take the fifth“. In legal terms, when an individual ‘takes the Fifth’ they invoke the right to remain silent and refuse to answer questions or provide information that might incriminate them.
Wembanyama has gotten off to a great start to his rookie season. The Spurs legend is not saying anything and is letting Wembanyama show everyone how things really are.

The French talent has been dominating so far
Victor certainly has all the talent in the world. But what surprised everyone and transitioned smoothly to the NBA was his shooting. Although his three-point percentage is below league average right now, he will only get better with time.
It is also visible from his games that he is not afraid of the bright lights. During the clutch, he has shown a willingness to take the shots. He is currently leading the Spurs in points, rebounds, steals, and blocks. As the rookie gets more comfortable with the style of basketball played in the NBA, it won’t be long before he perfects his game and becomes one of the best in the league.
