There have been a lot of conversations around the role of Anthony Davis lately. During the LA Lakers‘ last season’s failure, several pundits and fans wondered if it was time for AD to step up his game. Although we are only a few games into the new season, the arguments are already heated.
Recently LeBron James showed support for his teammate by announcing that people’s opinions don’t matter at the Lakers camp. However, that is not enough to stop all the noise coming in. As it happened, a 7x NBA champion chimed in on the highly debated role of AD in the Lakers camp and delivered a backhanded compliment.

It is understandable for the Lakers to welcome another leader to the team. With LeBron going into his 21st season in the league, the franchise is ready for someone else to be at the helm of things. Even the 38-year-old announced before the start of this season that this team is now AD’s team. However, it seems like those announcements are of little to no value to the critics. Despite LeBron openly saying that they don’t need to focus on what people have to say about the Lakers organization, this 53-year-old ex-Laker recently expressed his opinion on a recent podcast.
Robert Horry, after the Lakers registered their first win, discussed Davis’ performance in the game. Although all the panelists agreed that LeBron’s “AD doesn’t care” statement is right, Horry said that he expects more from him. However, the 7x champion also stated that the coach failed to utilize Davis to the best of his abilities. As per Horry, AD lacks the “mental” strength to be the superstar of the team. He said that if there was someone like Shaquille O’Neal on that team, they would step up and take the opportunity.
The Big Shot Bob panel agreed that even if AD has to ask LeBron to “move out the way” to make his mark, he should do it.

Anthony Davis’ performance in the last three games
Although a lot is being said about the 30-year-old, he has been putting up numbers for his team from game 1. After the season opener, AD scored 30 points in the following two games while being equally good at the defensive end. In his last game against the Orlando Magic, Davis put up 26 points with 19 rebounds in the game.
Regardless, the arguments don’t seem to be fading away anytime soon. If you are a Lakers fan, you’d wish for him to continue putting up such numbers and eventually cancel out all the noise.
