Gabrielle Union, the wife of Dwyane Wade, has consistently demonstrated a courageous openness, addressing topics ranging from childhood trauma to early career insecurities. Her willingness to share these experiences has propelled her advocacy for mental health, emphasizing the importance of genuine self-care for everyone. Recently in an interview with Marie Clarie, the ‘Being Mary Jane‘ actress, opened up about an embarrassing incident while trying something different apart from her husband’s ‘hot yoga’.
Union revealed that she rarely gets teary-eyed, but things changed when she once joined a hip-opening class. Little did she know that opening up her hips would release all the stored emotions from within. She said, “I’m not a crier. Not even when it’s part of my job. I tell them to just bring the menthol,” a reference to her acting days.”I was so alarmed when the instructor put me in this position. I’m not flexible to save my life, so to get in this position was a challenge. But like clockwork, it was like I sprung a leak. I was heaving and sobbing like I was at a funeral. I was so embarrassed. It unlocked something that I was not ready to deal with.”
It is believed that the human body stores most of the emotions in the hip. So, some yoga instructors warn their clients in advance that releasing and opening up the hips can trigger stored emotions, which can lead to them crying. Union, who even found it difficult to cry during a movie shoot, did not expect this to be true. But once they put her in that position, it didn’t take long before Dwyane Wade’s wife started weeping.

In the interview, she also talked about her ideal wellness routine, which she said was centered around “silence.” Union mentioned that right now her focus is on meditation. When she was asked about what is the one thing she could not get into no matter how hard she tried, her reply was in direct opposition to her husband’s interest in hot yoga.

Gabrielle Union doesn’t love hot yoga
Yoga and Pilates! They don’t sound like the workout routine of a pro basketball player. But the shooting guard with the Miami Heat, has embraced them. When Dwyane suffered from injuries in the latter of his career, his trainer introduced him to yoga. Since then he’s been dedicated to yoga and hot yoga especially. Hot yoga is a form of yoga where the exercise is performed under hot and humid conditions, resulting in considerable sweating. But it turns out this is something Gabrielle Union has not been able to do.
She said, “I don’t love hot yoga. I’ve actually done it I-don’t-know-how-many times. Every time, I say, Ok, this is my last time. I don’t think I’m built for it. But something always brings me back and I go, Why am I here? It’s just not for me.” She then added how her husband is obsessed with this routine, adding, “My husband swears by it though. He has a whole crew. They go daily. I’ll be at pilates—in the air conditioning.”
