A basketball rivalry quickly becomes one of the most serious feuds in sports. However, if the rivalry is more of an excuse for hilarious banter, the enjoyment is for everyone. While the Isaiah Thomas-Magic Johnson rivalry was heartbreaking, the feud between our favorite co-hosts is a different story.

Even though Shaquille O’Neal has had no shortage of rivals, both on and off the court, his ultimate rival is, of course, the one and only, Charles Barkley. Over the years, the duo has given us many iconic moments. But one that went under the radar was, unexpectedly, an instance involving one of the greatest to grace the game, Michael Jordan.

Charles Barkley snubs Michael Jordan in all-time draft

A while ago, some of the most popular NBA analysts did an all-time draft. From every available legend, six of the brightest basketball minds, including Chuck and Kenny, could draft their all-time team.

But, as is usually the case, expect the unexpected. Right from tipoff, the entire presentation was brimming with jokes and picks that strayed from expectations. Ernie Johnson, who recently became a member of the Sports Broadcasting Hall-of-Fame was on host duty.

Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, representing team Rebounders, had the first overall pick. Any basketball fan in that situation would choose just one name. But, for Chuck, the answer was quite different. Fresh off crossing over Mike twice in one game, Barkley chose Allen Iverson.

While ‘The Answer’ is a deserving inductee into the Hall-of-Fame, a first-overall pick clearly seemed like a reach. Moreover, even though Chuck tried to portray it as an All-Star game as a point guard-dominated event, his Philadelphia connection with Ivy seemed to be reasoning enough.

However, is there more to the story?

Was the Iverson pick a sly dig at Shaquille O’Neal?

In an interview, Iverson talked at length about how dominant Shaquille O’Neal truly was. As a result, teams had no choice but to foul the 7ft giant. “Shaq had to get assaulted every game…How many times he got fouled and they didn’t call it? I tried to foul him before he was going up… I remember jumping on his back, and he took me up with him.”

Perhaps, the infamous call by Barkley was instead a nod to this. AI assaulting his chief rival, Shaq, would surely land him in Chuck’s good graces. While we might never know the truth behind the selection, the rivalry between the two analysts is the gift that keeps on giving.
