ESPN has been the talk of the town ever since its parent company, Disney decided to lay off 7,000 employees. ESPN fired 20 on-air personalities in a ‘cost saving’ effort by the company. NBA millionaires Jeff Van Gundy and Jalen Rose were some notable names that felt the brunt of this decision. While it is well documented, this isn’t the first time that ESPN has laid off its employees. Between 2015 and 2017, a total of 550 people were laid off due to the ruptures of the media. While in 2020 another 300 people were laid off due to the pandemic. A year later, one of the most notable firings in ESPN took place, when a former NBA star was laid off for unprofessional behavior.

The same NBA star provided some hope to the fired ESPN employees by showcasing his luxury lifestyle on Instagram recently.

The Truth showed off that life isn’t all that bad after leaving the broadcasting company. Now the proud host of a podcast and the “Truth” brand, Pierce’s comeback will be a ray of hope for all his former ESPN colleagues. But what caused his firing?

How the truth of ‘The Truth’ cost him his job

In 2021, Paul Pierce was fired by ESPN for a racy Instagram video. Having joined the company in 2017, Pierce was quite the fan favorite. Not afraid to speak his mind and put out controversial takes, the Oakland native seemed destined for television stardom.

This all came crashing down as Pierce’s role at the company was reduced in 2019. A decision that was made due to him not being prepared for NBA segments and game predictions. The Truth was fired immediately after his Instagram video went live. With him showing off his lavish 4th of July cookout, the ‘Truth’ isn’t doing so bad after all.
