The old adage goes that a man never forgets his roots. Perhaps, that is just a saying. But, in the case of Shaquille O’Neal, that idea is a contradicting truth. Sometimes, his net worth and luxurious lifestyle are a far cry from his humble beginnings. However, some of his habits and mannerisms still remain relatively low-key, an embrace of where he comes from. That contrast was clearly in sight during a prime-time interview.
Discussing his eating habits, the Los Angeles Lakers legend was a 7-foot tall contradiction.

In an appearance on Saturday Night Live With Stephen Colbert, the 2000 NBA MVP was at his hilarious best. Whether it was mocking Charles Barkley or revealing his dietary plans, he was comical in his unique way. Stephen asked the 7-footer about his interest in certain foods. But, while detailing his no diet policy, the former Miami Heat champion also made clear the items in it.
“I don’t like rich people food. Hors-d’?uvres. Us regular people, we like chicken wings. And I don’t like going to these parties and the caviar. And I don’t like all that stuff. I want chicken wings, pizza,?and?chips.?”
While the components do sound very pedestrian, the entire image was a contradiction in itself.
His lifestyle did get him into the mainstream. Today, he is as good and as big a name as any A-list celebrity. Further, his net worth is now over $400 million. Perhaps, the dietary plans are a way for him to retain some of that childhood. Or, as a reminder of the hard times he came out of.
However, his lifestyle choices do present another layer of contrast to his image. After all, the 4-time NBA champion has taken full advantage of his means.

Over the years, stories of Shaq indulging in certain luxuries aren’t out of place.
Whether it be a custom-made $600,000 Lamborghini or a gigantic tree house, the legend hasn’t been shy when it comes to spending enormously.
He is also on the hunt for a mansion in Texas, with the approximate price easily eclipsing 5 million dollars. Even though he’s not shy about spending money, some of his habits remain down to earth, like his dietary habits.
