Charles Barkley didn’t have the best experience with learning Spanish in school. He was really upset with his Spanish teacher Ms. Gomez for failing him in the subject, which resulted in him missing his graduation. That’s certainly enough reason to be frustrated. However, things have changed much now over the years. Although his relationship with Spanish and his teacher didn’t end on a great note, there was another reunion that made him happy during his recent visit to Auburn’s game.
During the Steam Room podcast, the basketball legend was asked about Auburn’s recent feat. It’s a good time for all the Auburn fans out there. And even more so for the university’s alma mater, Barkley. After defeating Ole Miss 106-76 that Wednesday night, Auburn currently has a five-game winning streak. Chuck is one of their biggest supporters, and he was also present at the matchup. His elation only soared when he got to see some familiar faces.
Fondly narrating the visit, Barkley revealed that he met with his high school teacher at the game. “I went with a high school teacher friend of mine. She taught me in high school. Miss Beth Stone, one of my favorite teachers up there,” with more names as Barkley said. When Ernie Johnson asked him about his teacher, Barkley added, “She is retired. Actually, she is actually just recertified to become a teacher again. She was bored doing nothing. She lives right down by Auburn…she is so amazing,”

He added that being from Leeds, he always gets to see familiar faces and is still close with them. “One thing about Leeds that I always love, you go K-12 together, so you see all the teachers. So, Ms. Stone, thank you for going to the Auburn game last night,” Chuck added.

It was a big win for Auburn as well. Johni Broome had 24 points and 4 assists to lead the team against Ole Miss, while four of his teammates lit up the game with double figures. While Chaney Johnson, Denver Jones, and Miles Kelly each scored 13 points, Chad Baker-Mazara had 22 points. Next up, the team is set to face Kentucky. Not just Barkley, but the entire fandom will be watching to see if Auburn can keep its winning streak alive.
While Chuck seemingly had a great time meeting old friends, has he mended things with his Spanish teacher? Not just Ms. Gomez, he was also upset with his dad. But what happened?

Charles Barkley was upset with his father and Spanish teacher
In his interview with Dr. Phil, the basketball legend explained how he cried for nearly an hour after that incident. Apart from missing his graduation ceremony, there was another thing that angered him. And it was because of his father. “I was angry at my dad, and I was angry at Ms. Gomez,” the Philadelphia 76ers legend said.
“Ms. Gomez was my Spanish teacher, and I flunked Spanish…. I didn’t get to graduate. I stood next door at the baseball stadium on the top rung by myself, and I watched the entire graduation, and I cried unmercifully for like an hour. I was so distraught,” the Phoenix Suns legend detailed.

Barkley has mentioned many times how their father didn’t visit them much. He spent more time with his mother and grandmother. It was for the graduation ceremony that his father had come all across the city. At the time, he blamed both his teacher and father.
Much later, after he grew up, he realized his mistake and even forgave his father. “I forgive my dad. He wasn’t there. We grew up poor.’ It sucked. But I gotta play basketball for me. Secondly, I said. ‘It actually my fault I flunked Spanish. It’s really not Ms. Gomez’s fault. I flunked the exam,” Barkley added. That brought a big change in his career too. This reunion must have brought so many memories to him at once.
