Shaq's strip club advice—just a joke or a glimpse into his wild side?

Some of us have the coolest dads—the kind who sneak you extra snacks when mom says no and share life-changing advice along the way. For Myles O’Neal, that’s Shaq in a nutshell. Always the playful, larger-than-life figure, Shaquille O’Neal isn’t just a legendary athlete but a dad with some pretty unconventional guidance. Recently, though, things took a hilarious turn when Myles dropped a bombshell about some advice that went a little off-script. And let’s just say, it had something to do with strip clubs and saving money.

Shaq and Myles were sitting down for a chat on Complex’s Goat Talk series, where they asked each other a variety of questions on a multitude of topics. When the topic of financial advice came up, Myles mentioned how his dad had given him loads of solid tips. And Shaquille O’Neal instantly gave a good one: “It’s not how much you make, it’s how much you keep.” But Shaq had no idea what was about to come next.

Myles couldn’t help but laugh as he revealed his favorite piece of advice. “My favorite financial advice that you gave me actually was, uh, save 75 and use some of the 75 for like necessities and bills and stuff, and then the other 25 you just fu** off with, splits, go to strip club, whenever you want,” Myles hilariously disclosed on the podcast.

Shaq, caught completely off guard, responded with a mix of shock and humor, blurting out, “First of all, as your father, I never told you to go to strip club.” He quickly hid his face, laughing, as he jokingly whispered, “Don’t. Stop telling our family secrets.” Myles just grinned.

However, beyond the playful banter, Shaquille O’Neal is all about teaching his kids the value of hard work. He’s raised them to hustle for their dreams, emphasizing education as his top priority.

“I don’t care if you play basketball, I don’t care about none of that,” he once stated. “I’ve got six kids, I would like a doctor, somebody to own a hedge fund, a pharmacist, a lawyer, someone that owns multiple businesses, someone to take over my business. But I tell them I’m not going to hand it to you. You gotta earn it.”

Shaquille O’Neal’s advice on saving and managing money

Even after retirement, Shaq’s bank account keeps growing, raking in about $60 million annually from various business ventures and endorsement deals. It’s not too shabby for a guy who’s mastered the game of money on and off the court.

Back in 2019, during BITG Charity Day, CNBC shared a clip of him breaking down his money advice in the most Shaq way possible—with a blank sheet of paper. “Alright, kids,” he began, as he asked for a blank sheet. “Here’s $100,” pointing at the paper. “Rip the $100 in half.”

Then, he laid down the golden rule: take one half and “save it. Never touch it. Put it away and don’t even look at it.” With the remaining $50, he says that the smart people and billionaires of the world take another half and stash that away too.

Finally, Shaq gets to the fun part. “This remaining quarter is your fun money,” he explains, emphasizing that if you want to buy houses, cars, or just splurge a little, that’s the portion you use. It’s a straightforward plan—save and invest 75 percent of what you make for the future, and enjoy life with the other 25 percent.
