When you have the ‘Most Dominant Ever’ player to step foot in the league at home, there is no chance one would require any other assistance. So, when it comes to Shaquille O’Neal and his kids, naturally people would assume the Lakers legend to be the one guiding light in his kid’s hooping journey. But Shareef recently shared a video that highlights the huge role that his mother Shaunie Henderson plays which is apparently disliked.
“When your mom who has never played basketball tries to tell you how to play basketball🤦🏾♀️😂😂😂.” That was the video caption that the former G-League star shared on his Instagram.
House of Highlights, an Instagram page shared the post, “Gotta love mom for this 🤣👏 (via @shaypalchak).” In the video, one can clearly see the mother trying to explain to their kid a basketball move to fake and pump. Most of the audience in the comment section agreed with the advice.

However, Shareef thought otherwise. But it’s not the first time that Shaunie Henderson tried to teach their kids without being a pro in that field. A month ago, she added a post on Instagram of her eldest Myles’ DJ session. Along with celebrating her son’s success in his EDM journey, the Basketball Wives producer added, “I taught him that 😎 @mylesoneal #myson #proudmom.”
Even though both sons have taken up Shaunie’s ex-husband Shaquille O’Neal’s career paths, she surely added her motherly advice. With Shareef’s post, it feels like he might have been tired of it, but it can’t run away from them. She even got emotional when her son received a call-up from an NBA team.
“I’m so proud of you @shareefoneal I can’t even talk about this without crying.” Two months ago, the Sacramento Kings offered a contract to Shareef. Even though the team waived him a couple of days after it was still a huge deal at the time.
So, Shaunie Henderson was proud of her son, and the sacrifices he made in order to reach that stage.

It was not long ago when the 24-year-old suffered a congenital heart defect. In 2o18, he was with UCLA as the athletic trainer called them to inform them about the same. It would require open-heart surgery to fix it, but there was no guarantee that he would continue his hooping journey. But ultimately Shareef decided to have the surgery and came out stronger after the operation.
During the 2022-23 season, when there was no G-league contract, Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL) approached him. Shareef even wanted to go there for a restart of his young career.
“He’s like, ‘Me and your mom talked about it. We’re not gonna let you go to Australia. That’s too far like d-mn, speaking to everything that happened, like the closest person to you is a 16-18 hour flight.’ He’s like ‘We’re not going for that.'”

After that, he understood and instead started working on revamping Reebok, and continued to work hard in the States. That’s why the Kings’ call came in the first place, even though it didn’t work out as he would have wanted.
