Once popular, everyone wants to follow the same trajectory. Since Michael Jordan, more former athletes want to remain a part of the league, at least in an ownership capacity. Some, like Magic Johnson and Dwyane Wade, have already started their journey. Others, like Shaquille O’Neal and LeBron James, are putting the pieces in place. But, with the Los Angeles Lakers’ legendary big man making his ownership desires clear, it seems he has an obstacle to overcome.

In the form of a former teammate and a friend, O’Neal might have some competition for his dreams. Udonis Haslem, who has expressed his desire for an ownership stake with the team, asked Rick Ross about his plans for expanding into the role.

Oh, you already know. Imma keep it real, I need y’all to walk me in there…We gotta get us a piece of that Miami Heat,” Ross said. Mr. Heat Culture was fully on board with the idea of Ross staking a claim in Miami. “Hey big homie, that’s a dream. That’s a dream for Rozay. You know, just to see the city. Because it wouldn’t just be for me, it’ll be for the city,” Ross added.

To Rick, the story of a Miami product taking on that role would be poetic and best for the city, and franchise, as a whole. “Somebody from the city, a part of the city, come up and earn that, you know what I mean?”

UD already has his plans in place for taking on a role in the ownership group. Could he co-exist with a friend in the $150 million worth rapper? If yes, what does the future hold for Shaq and his ownership plans?

Before retirement, Udonis would reveal that ownership in the city that has become his home was the ultimate “light” at the end of the tunnel for him. But, before him, the 4x NBA Champion has outlined his dreams of becoming an owner.

His path, however, isn’t restricted to just Miami. While a Florida-based team is the ultimate prize, O’Neal is also open to a partnership with James in a supposed Las Vegas expansion team. But his plans face many others vying for the same goal now.
