Hope has returned for the Hendersons. One of the oldest churches in the area, led by Pastor Keion Henderson, suffered major damage when Hurricane Beryl struck Houston on July 8. Almost two months after the devastating hurricane, Shaunie took to Instagram to share a major update with her followers regarding the same.

It’s a happy day for the family, who are excited to welcome back the community to the newly rebuilt Houston Lighthouse Church. With hope and support from the community, Shaunie Henderson and her husband, Keion, continued to work hard toward the renovations and recently announced the reopening ceremony. The church’s First Lady shared a clip of herself preparing towel gifts for attendees. She was also joined by her stepdaughter, Katelyn.

The mother of five looked thrilled to be back at her duties at the Lighthouse North. “I’m EXCITED TO SEE MY LIGHTHOUSE FAMILY TOMORROW!!! 😊🤗 We’re Back!! Lighthouse North!!!!” Shaquille O’Neal’s ex-wife wrote. She also announced the new Service time of 9 AM and 11 AM, starting tomorrow.

Fans in the comments section had high praise for the couple as they should. Shaunie and her husband ensured pretty fast renovation and got the church back to the people. This is quite impressive considering the major destruction.

After the disaster, Shaunie had shared a snap of the church. The roof was nearly collapsed, and most of the rooms were flooded with at least three feet of water. Fortunately, the 20,000 people who were part of the church congregation were moved to safety. The Church was able to bounce back within two months but it wasn’t without hardships.

Following Shaunie’s Instagram post, Henderson took to his YouTube channel to give viewers a proper glimpse of the severely damaged building, with his safety gear on. He also addressed several misconceptions. Contrary to local media reports, Henderson clarified that no $4.4 million was requested. Instead, donors were asked to contribute according to their capacity.

Netizens had misunderstood the situation, assuming that either the church hadn’t insured the building or that it had already received financial aid for repairs. “Don’t believe the hype, don’t believe that an insurance company has dropped us a check and everything is fine. As your leader, I won’t stand for it. I will fight with every tooth and every nail that I have to make sure that we are made whole,” Henderson noted.

Thanks to support from other churches and donors, the building, which required a complete renovation, has been fully reconstructed. Having been around for 15 years, it represents a source of hope for the community, including the Hendersons.
