Rather than follow in her Hall of Fame dad’s footsteps at LSU, the 17-year-old is forging her own path.
While commendable, the decision to not join LSU like her father, Shaquille O’Neal, came as a shock to most people. But when it comes to playing, there is one person she’s trying to emulate. In a beautiful tribute, Me’Arah had one name in mind.

Despite their previous differences, Shaq and Kobe Bryant were able to mend fences, eventually. As a result, their bitter relationship soon gave way to a healthy mutual love and respect. By extension, that love spread between their respective families as well.
A few months ago, Me’Arah uploaded an Instagram story of Kobe, writing “Miss you unc”. This time, the 17-year-old is looking to emulate and remember the other Bryant member the world lost that fateful night. In a touching tribute, the newest Florida Gator took to Instagram again to share a simple message.
On her wristband were three words, a mantra for her soon-to-be basketball career. “Play Gigis Way.” With a message as pure and wholesome as that on her wrist, Me’Arah has the backing of the basketball world in general.

Moreover, that does serve as a reminder of the incomparable impact that the Los Angeles Lakers legend had on the next generation. For Me’Arah, however, it is step 1 in distinguishing herself in her new role with the Florida Gators.
Despite mass speculation suggesting that a tryst with LSU was in the cards, Me’Arah chose to sign with Florida instead. While her family already gave her the thumbs up months ago, it comes as a brand new foray for the youngster.
In a week where Victor Wembanyama spoke about the Kobe Bryant mentality, Me’Arah is adopting a similar mindset in emulating Gianna. But, the rest of her tenure is going to be defined by her basketball play strictly.
