Shaquille O’Neal’s longstanding admiration for law enforcement led to him seeking voluntary roles in multiple county police departments. He usually exercises his cop status for community outreach or promoting recruitment. Schooling his colleagues is usually not on the cards. But Meagan Good has known the giant for the big prankster he is. It’s not surprising one of their encounters was O’Neal exerting his cop status. She narrated the hilarious story to Shaq’s friend, Anthony Anderson when he guest-hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live this week.

Initially, she narrated that their first meeting was in 1998 when the then 17-year-old Good starred on Nickelodeon’s Cousin Skeeter. Shaq directed an episode but he spent most of the week playing pranks on the cast. The show aired without a hitch and Good kept in touch with O’Neal for years to come.

But as Anderson would also corroborate, friendship with Shaquille O’Neal has its quirks. Good narrated a “crazy” incident when she was leaving a club at around two in the morning. “I stopped at this gas station, I got gas and as I was pulling away, I had left the gas thing in the thing..” She was referring to the fuel dispenser’s nozzle which she left in her vehicle’s port instead of returning to the cradle. “So I pull it away and I ripped it off the thing.”

This accident has happened to many drivers but the aftermath was something only Meagan Good could experience. A ‘nondescript’ police car with the turret lights pulled up making her panic. “And then you just see this massive man get out of it and he was like, ‘Meagan, you’re going to be under arrest.'”

Now your friendly neighborhood giant cop doesn’t know your name instantly. So Good realized who it was. “I was like wait what and it was Shaquille.” And Meagan had a stroke of good luck.

Shaquille O’Neal is the cop we all need

Anderson confirmed that his Omega Phi Psi brother is an honorary police officer. He volunteered his services in Miami, the LA Port Police, and Atlanta. He starred in the LA Port Police recruitment video and as the community outreach director of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, he organized multiple events for student-athletes.

But Good’s experience with ‘Officer Diesel’ was different. He had his own squad car because he’s too big for regular cars and not like he can get around in a tank like in those recruitment videos. But there’s no mistaking that he was on duty and under normal circumstances, he’d have arrested Good. She couldn’t recall the details of how it ended but Shaquille O’Neal let her go.

Anderson was so impressed, that he said, “Shaq, those are the cops that we need on the street.” He might want to rethink that. This is the same ‘cop’ who wouldn’t let Anderson use a bathroom in his mega-mansion.
